The black banding is normal as the refraction changes in the rounded glass from viewers point of view. The sphere scenery I did, all hollow glass spheres, had a dark bending too. So that's nothing to really worry about unless you want to make them look faked. As Wigand said you could make the glass a bit thinner which would reduce the size a bit, but I think those typically have to look this way.

Fantastic job !

Adjusting ray depth settings may help - this can happen when the number of rays bounced around goes beyond the limit and the program just stops raytracing - happens at edges, where things show total internal reflection, which can raise the number of raytracing calculations significantly.

This applies to Lighworks, which I think you are using here, so its worth investigating to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for your input folks. I've tried all your suggestions already, but I think it's down to the thickness of the glass. Still got a few ideas left.

Tom, I tried to send you a provate message, but you're not receiving them. Did you get the e-mails?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your perserverance - this post here reminded me to check my junk mail, and there it was. Something about the email address must trigger filters to recognise it as junk :(

At least in the case of my personal email, I can still get to those (company email filters those before they even hit the mailbox!). Sorry this was such hard work for you, will now send along a reply.

Best regards!

Tom
