This table is "Fireball Classic". Its an older, and less complex game, then "Creature" was.
Here's the a WIP pic of the playfield, with the holes drilled and the GI lighting in place.

I totally agree with Madmouse. It always look like you are building an actual table rather than models of tables. |

Thanks, all!
It is like building a real table. Drilling holes in the wood, applying textures, grabing stuff from my box of pre-made objects (posts, lights, rubbers ect..)
I did have to create new post objects for this table, as the ones I have used previously were of the wrong design for this particular table. As time goes by I'll have all of the correct parts for any table made. :)
Heres another WIP.
Added posts, and rubbers.

Kurt,
Awesome work! I was in the vending business in the mid 70's as a teenager and saw the transition from mechanical to digital pinballs and you really capture the realism of the playing field. I will watch this post to see it's progress.
I am new to TS7.5 and posted a question on the newbie forum but no answer to my issue yet. Did you draw the deck in TS or did you import a vector file like a DXF or AI file? I can not seem to import one of my DXF files and then extrude it (or whatever TS may call the procedure) so that a 2D flat drawing can turn into a 5/8" thick board. All I see are dots of the outline and can not select it. Is there a certain format to use in TS?
Thanks and I appreciate your inspiring work,
Michael |

Thanks, Michael.
I worked as a arcade/pinball tech for a vending machine company in the early eighties. That was when video games first took off.
Anyway, the playfield is just a cube primative, set to the real life size of the playfield (20.20 in. x 42 in. x .5 in thick). I gave it a procedural wood texture, then mapped a bmp of the playfield (that I redrew in Photoshop), to the top face.
Then I used that in Solid mode, as a guide for drilling the holes with cylanders, via boolean subtraction.

Hey Kurt,
Nice website. I remember working on a few of those myself. Very nice work. How are you able to get the original artwork for the head and play field? Did you license them?
It was interesting to see your fact sheet of year released and how many were made etc...
I still can not get my imported file to extrude. I have them in DXF, IGS, 3DM, DWG, SAT and STP. I am able to see the 2d vector and select them and move them around and rotate but I still can not seem to give them a thickness. I can take an organic object (like you mentioned) and manipulate it in the info window no prob but even when I right click on my imported file and the extrusion box appears, a tool appears in the middle of the object but it does nothing to extrude the vectors. (it is a closed vector) I sent support a sample file with the explanation but have not heard back yet. (it's only been about 6 hours)
Here is the post so I don't hijack yours or take it off subject.

Thanks again,

Thanks, Mike.
Michael.....
I read the rec.games.pinball newsgroup every day, and there are always links to photos of various parts and tables, as well as ebay. I have a collection of over 4 gigs worth of pinbal pictures. Also, sometimes a real table owner will send a bunch of pixs. The RoundUp table on my site was like that. Only 79 of them were made, and one of the owners of one sent me all the info I needed to re-create it, including a video of it in action, which is a HUGE help.
As for extrusion....
Did you try using the selection tools (select lines) and use the extrusion tool in the point/line edit mode?
If so, did you try the opposite?
Also, did you try adding a face to the closed shape, then try extruding?
Thats all I can think of. If I have some time today I'll see if I can experiment a bit.

Here's the latest WIP....
All the plastics are done. Added the pop bumpers, mushroom bumpers, switches, the target, and the left side kickout guide. I also changed the underlying wood texture.

Picked the final angle that I'll use. Added wire guides, ball return cover and cabinet.

Thanks, Mad Mouse.
Here's another wip.
Finished the plunger cover, rotating disk, and disk buttons, as well as the upper ball ramp. I also re-sized the mushrooms a bit.
Still have to do the gate hardware, nuts, and the inserts and playfield lights.

Darn it, I keep wondering if you are rendering this table or actually building it. :D
Your snapshots look incredibly photorealistic to me, only the lack of background reminds me that this is "only" a rendering. Amazing lighting. Most excellent!!

The model's done. (I'll put the instruction cards in later in Photoshop.)
So tonight I'll let the computer render the full size image.
Heres the wip...

I have finished the backglass, and have started work on the VPM side of things.
Heres the final graphic only WIP....
I'll probably not post any new pix here until I finish the actual game, as the graphics wont change.

Another pin/video/jukebox/whatever tech, in my case 1970s through early 1990s. Looks great, very realistic and concrete-looking. Makes me want to rummage through a solenoid box for flipper coils. |

Hi scapino. Nice! Say, this would be really cool if you could play with it, with physics, in real time!

Thanks frootee.
You can play with it! Its a Visual Pinball table.
You can find out all you need to know (and download) about Visual Pinball at
http://www.vpforums.com
I use Truespace to model, light and animate the table image overlays, that go on top of the "physical" Visual Pinball table that I code and build.
Its completly functional, and it runs very much like the real thing (except for some limits in the VP physics engine).
