Ive started my first proper model in TS7.5, Ive faced a few problems mostly in that because I cannot find (or they dont exist) specific tools in the Workspace that are available in Modelling side, these are mostly the Subtraction tools, It was hard because I need the ship to be symetrical and couldnt figure out how to go about this in workspace without having to cut it in half in the Model side and then mirroring. Strangely If I select opposite faces and move them around in workspace, I dont end up with a symetrical shape. The negative side the the way I went around doing this is that the Model side converts the object and I end up with a massive poly count and it becomes incredibly hard to make changes to geomatry. And also my big dilema of texturing this beast!
If anyone can suggest how I might go about this please let me know! Im so stuck! heh

Looks great, despite the problems. Maybe you should have started the thread with the title: Yet Another Star Trek Starship. :D
I started with a low-poly model to figure out the problems. I should have my ship textured by the end of the week, hopefully. |

Thats a good looking ship Matt
If anyone can suggest how I might go about this please let me know! I'm so stuck! is that stuck for a design or stuck on how to map and texture it??
If its a design your after then I'm not really your man but if its UV mapping then I'll tell you what I tell everyone... Have you tried 3D ultimate unwrapper....if not, why not? the TS UV tools have improved in 7.5 but they still have a long way to go to match this program and UV mapper pro. HTH
Thanks for the comment over at CG society BTW

Way cool spaceship Matski! Sort of Federation styling - forward disc and twin warp nacelles - but also quite different in that it has alomost organic line to it - very nice.
Re your modelling woes - I seem to recall reading in the manual that there is a mirror modeller somewhere in the workspace that seemed even better than the model side MM but as yet I've not used it. |

Looking good! It kind of reminds me of The Voyager from Star Trek.... It's too early on for me to make any suggestions, so I'll come back later to see how it's going. Keep it up!:D |

A while ago but It confused me heh, also will TS7 import the correct UV information for rendering after unwrapping and texturing. Im not stuck for design I have an idea of it having a look like Solar Panels on the Saucer section, and the rest some kind of interesting repeated material thats shiny and looks unidentifiable as a metal, of course there will be detail with the engines, and I need to add windows to it.

No problem, I should have made the comment over here, but I saw it on CGtalk first a I got an email saying you had posted a new image.

Cheers heh, it is based on a Federation type of ship, I decided after nearly finishing every episode of Star Trek Enterprise I would give it a go at making my own ship, but I decided to make one possibly from the distant future abd fealt that like the Vulcan Ships and all other more advanced alien races in the Star Trek universe, they all have very organic looking ship styles. |

have you tried the polygon reduction tools? Not sure if they are on the workspace side but they should be on the modeller side. They should reduce your polygon count issue.
HTH!

Currently $50 but they have a free demo.
I hope Caligari puts more effort into their UV mapping tools. One of the most important tools so it shouldn't be an after thought. |
