:) I know the feeling. I paid to have my Asus laptop repaired and it's just gathering dust now that I've got a C2D desktop.... and this from the guy who said he'd never go back to desktops.... :o I certainly wouldn't want to have to redo some of my recent renders on a Pentium-M...........

Interesting! I now know 5% of Vray of the 94% :p

Is there a manual anywhere online about Vray? I want a brief explanation about EVERY setting in Vray........or is it setup differently in every 3d application?

And one other thing lol, I can't find the material editor unless I'm in model mode with the original truespace layout. Are there some new editions with the material editor in Ts7.5?

That's a nice tutorial for all Jack thanks!

I did notice Jack that you mentioned

I ended up using two spot lights

And I wonder why the tick in the Environment Lighting Only box has no effect? Or does it? I don't really know how environment lighting works mate sorry if that's a dumb question... I try to get rid of all default fixed lights right away to save er, confusion :)

:) Well hadn't really gotten to the tutorial part, but hey if that does the job then ... er um, yeah, that's it, I meant to do that! :p

Not sure about the Env Light Only checkbox. According to the manual, it makes VRay disregard scene lights from lighting calculations when using an HDRI image map... so guess I'd uncheck it... ... I don't use HDRI so not sure I can't really help you with that one. Guess I need to try it and see what the difference is...

What do you do for global light in a realistic fashion jack?

Well... I just use GI and model the things I need the light to bounce off of.... ;)

What I've found makes the largest difference in the realism of the scene is that reflective objects need something to reflect. Also it's not light that makes form, it's shadow. The shadows ("shading") are what make things 3D. So when lighting a scene, it's not about making everything bright, but rather using the play of light and shadow to help the eye understand the shapes.

'Course in many ways I'm still a beginner at a lot of this stuff. I know the theory pretty well, but I'm still learning how to put it into practice effectively.
