Nope, I teach Design and Technology which is effectively Product Design.
If you are implying that a job such as that would warrant a better spec laptop then you are right...and I did!
Lent nice Ati powered Samsung laptop to the French teacher for a presentation and it hasn't worked since. £200 for a new mobo..don't think so.
So for the last few weeks of term I am using the laptop no-one else wants that we use to run the light show in the school hall. A lower specced laptop you couldn't buy if you tried...:( Celeron M, Sis chipset...256mb ram (32 Mb given to graphics:p )
Anyway, school budget is wiped out so I need to wait until September for a new one....and that is that.
Still, I can use model side on it, surf the net and write the end of year school reports so I shouldn't grumble. At the moment I just model objects and bring them home to mess with on my main PC...:D |

BTW Paul I'd take that as a very great compliment if I where you. Trumpton was one of the greatest TV shows ever to come out of the UK.
Wasn't intentional I assure you...maybe subconcious.
I remember messing with Harold quite some time ago then someone pointed out he looked like Wallace from Wallace and Grommit and, in reality, he did.
However, Harold has been around in WIP form for quite a while and if you look at the original Wallace when I was creating Harold, there is not such a resemblance.
So I can only conclude that Aardman actually ripped me off...:D :D  |

My laptop doesn't have much different specs (I'm not sure bout the graphics card, and I have 1 GB 256 MB of RAM, but it really didn't do much...). It's probably this antivirus software I have on it... Slows everything down...
That's cool, my school doesn't have product design, and graphic design (where we just use TrueSpace 5.2 to create some stills and animations for no absolute purpose; at least you have a reason why you're designing in a product design class) seems to be going down in popularity.... We have to take written exams for it, which aren't fun, and I'm sure that TrueSpace costs much more than the school is making from having TrueSpace in one of it's classes, and most students don't have the patience to work with it. I was considered to be the TrueSpace genius of the class, and I was the first to purchase the program (I got 6.6). At the end of the class, we were supposed to make a scene with pretty much whatever we wanted, and we all submitted it at the end (nobody made it to the gallery from their class submissions, but I got a couple of honorable mentions from basic things I made at home). I'm taking Graphic Design II next year, so hopefully that'll be better...
Anyway, not that you care about any of that, that's just my story of how I ran into TrueSpace. Scene's looking good, except the balloon looks a little too flat... I know it's deflated, but maybe a couple of wrinkles? Even if it is a cartoon, I personally think it needs a tad more detail. Other than that, awesome!:D
Thanks for the info Splints!

I kinda like the last one most as it has a very nice softness about it which I think works very well with the character design. Also the warm brightness of the colouring seems to be more inviting. Something about the lack of overt texturing works nicely with this as well - creates a dreamlike simplicity. Good one.:jumpy: |

You know, I've got an idea, those renders would be perfect for little games of spot-the-difference... I think kids might light that, find errors or missing objects and such. :D
Nice moody renders, I like the sunset colors a lot. Oh, and I just love the clouds on the horizon, really great. |

These are looking great. I don't have any suggestions on them. I think everything suits the style very well. This is some of my favorite truespace work I have seen. I really like the style. |

Looking lovely Paul - The only suggestion I couls make is to add a touch of reflection from the horizon clouds onto the sea in the sunny pic but it's certainly not necessary as it works great the way it is. Good luck. |

Good luck to you too Wizard. I don't think these are gallery winners by any means but I hear there are those who simply judge a piece of software by visiting the gallery...thought these would make a nice contrast to the 'photorealistic' stuff and show Vray used for softer, more cartoony images.
I made a few little tweaks just so there is something different there if they make a mention, you might like the cloud a bit better Wizard...and I added the reflections....:D |

Oh what the hell...I'm off to watch Doctor Who with my kids so I thought I might as well post the final pics here. Final as in the gallery...pretty sure I will revisit them for the book itself...:D |

Looks great Paul.
Just a thought... Does he pop his balloon with his catapult just to get a cloud friend. Sounds a bit sinister ;) :D |

Does it sound weird to note that Little Cloud might also be the name of a Cherokee or Sioux? Very resonant names and feathers and wampum, tipis pines and beaver lodges, porcupine quills. Water rolling around a bowl to encourage rain to fall. Sympathetic magic. Braves morphing into buffalo and wolves. Grand Canyon model
Ah I see now, this is because I looked lately at the DX10 graphics demo set in the Wild West and Little Cloud's progress was on my mind too. There's been a conflation. Goldurn it :)

passing around the pipe of peace
Funny you should say that splinters, at the weekend at a housewarming we had a hookah (someone's housewarming gift) going in the garden gazebo (ahem shed) - full bubbling works - with Apple tobacco and other things yes. Tobacco is Virginian so it's on-topic. He Who Smokes Heap Big Heap Of Leaves. Very long names the Virginian Shawnee :)

Thanks for that but it says Win XP only and I am on Vista...looka kinda fun.
As for the story here, I had a problem replacing the balloon...can't really take a cloud home (great fun for another story though). I have a catapult which is not friendly...but I have an idea for how to make it all right with just these elements....... |

Anyone got a good bubble texture/material for Vray? The kind you get when you blow washing liquid through a hoop...with the colorful oily film...:) |
