I decided to try to do an old rusty robot ... what do you think? |

Wow, looks great! Maybe just a little more rust around his eyes, or some detail around (mostly above) the eyes. It's a bit too solid... Just a suggestion; it's up to you what you do with it!

Good start!
Maybe reduce the bump just a little though, as the rust looks kind of "thick" at the moment. Most rust on metal is a fairly thin layer. |

Cool!
This looks like fun! I remember rust that heavy from hanging around a shipyard when my dad's yacht was in drydock in New England... very realistic to that kind of environment.
As far as suggestions go I would only suggest that you may want to add bolts to the end of the mouth openings at the jaw so you could afterward readily use the model for animated speech.
Great character already! :D

Hey cool! I like the dynamic pose - gives a real sense of life even at this early stage. |

Hopefully it's just a little rat or something getting hunted this time in this "Robonated" thingie.
Nice one and really like the progress even without textures, chrome did someone say Chrome loud ;)

not really too sure where I'm going to go with this guy ... was part of a doodle I did that has been evolving.
I like the chrome idea ... but is there a way of doing a rusty chrome? I guess it would be a layered texture map with a chrome base and a rust over the top?
thanks for the input! |

I wasn't expecting a "quadra-ped" based on the first pics, but it does look cool, and has a certain menacing look to it.
And I wouldn't try and do a rusty chrome look, as chrome doesn't rust :p maybe do a separate version with a lot of chrome, although I like the rusty version as is! |

with chrome, it is usually over metal. You would have to put bubbles here and there, and broken out bubbles with rust underneath. OK if you want to do that much, but I think just making rusty metal would be good enough. |

ok - i think i scrapped the rusty look .... added tubes. Not sure where the tubes are going to go to.
Inspiration is the Mountain Dew contest going on until the end of the month. www.greenlabelart.com
if I can figure something out and get it done, I'll use it for that. |

Really like that one, only thing bothering me are the hair cable thing.
Does remind me of egypt or something, the blue head thing they use to have.

Looks wild!!! I love it!!!
Seriously though... you may wanna lose the smoke trail there... I can almost hear the comments at the Dew Contest already...
"See, even robots get gas from drinking the Dew." ;)

This is very promising. I like even better images before the can was added, they have great light. I wonder if this could be animated, probably not because of the wires:( |

The wires and the robot could very easily be animated with the new bones system. It would just require a little thought. Keep up the good work auragreg. |

thanks everyone.
I didnt finish it for the Dew contest, so I may re-think the concept. My first thought was to do some sort of train-like thing. Make him into a workhorse. But that seems too generic.
My initial idea for this was to have the bot crawling out of the can. But I ran into problems when I tried to model the opening. I couldnt get the geometry right. The polygons went crazy when I tried to smooth it with the opening modeled.
oh well. More to come soon .... |
