Hi folks. I discovered tonight that I can access the shared space without having truespace lock up. But, to do it, I have to use my system (SPOCK) which is connected to the internet directly through the cable modem. The other system (ULTRALORD) is connected to the web, via a router, to the cable modem.
I would prefer to solve the problem I have with the router/Ultralord, and use it for shared spaces (my wife uses Spock mostly ;) )
Does anyone have any router configuration tips to get this going? I do not think it is our firewall(s). I disabled them on both systems temporarily last night to test if truespace (on Ultralord) could maintain a pulse while connected and switching between shared spaces; it could not.
Thanks!

I knew you were going to say that.
But seriously, I have no idea about how to solve your problem, since I'm not a network specialist. Good Luck!
Ask me about something that I know and occasionally I actually have a useful answer.
(Disclaimer): This post served no purpose other than to bump the topic back to the top of the list- perhaps someone who knows network stuff can help you out. |

why Thank You spacekdet.
I'm not a network specialist either, but I work with one... maybe I'll ask him.
I checked the network activity in the Windows taskbar while ts is switching between spaces, and it is almost nil. But it looks like, ts uses a particular port for each space. Workshops, for example, is 1109. Games is 1110 (something like that). When we switch between spaces, the port number changes. When I switch between spaces, ts gets hung. It appears that the port number does not change, when ts hangs. Perhaps the port number goes to the trash bin of infinity on its way through the router, never to return. Hence, ts waits forever for a response message on that port, and it will accept no other input until a response arrives, which it never does. See, I cannot add any cubes, spheres, etc. I cannot edit any objects, but I can push buttons (the player tab, and the Modeller tab, for example, although ts does not actually switch. I can just push the buttons and they get highlighted. Hmmm...)

Hmm, normally I would be at this sort of problem like a rat to rubbish (hmm bad example) but unfortunately this could be down to a number of reasons, i'll keep thinking though. |

I think these items will help you get started. First establish that the port is open and not being blocked. Then check for activity. No activity means another problem area and you can start looking elsewhere. (Settings etc.)

Checks for Security holes

Hey not to fast, it seems that nobody can connect right now. Or is it just me? I think the servers are down as of 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time.
You can download the Manual for truePlay which has some trouble shooting information. |

hi trueblue. Well, the problem I have is, I have Never been able to login to shared spaces during the thursday night chats, nor any other time. I can use the chat client, but whenever I try to go to a shared space, truespace locks up. This only happens on the computer connected to the web via a router, to the cable modem.
On the other PC, connected to the web directly through the cable modem, I do not have this trouble.

OK frootee, try sticking your computers IP address into the DMZ (de-militarised zone) of your router. This may fix you problem. |
