Why are the views different in Player verses Modeler?
Is this by design or is this mistake?
Player Modeler
Front = Right
Back = Left
Left = Front
Right = Back
I personally find this very confusing. |

I also noticed that the view buttons in player don't work in my custom layout. |

my guess would be mistake or oversight..it was one of the first things I noticed about ts7..fortunately we can just change the images and tooltips..:D
what kind of custom layout do you use Graysho..is it based on floating?
have you tried the large version of that player view toolbar? |

I agree. I also have always thought that was awkward. I had thought that maybe it had something to do with making it compatible with Vray, but I'm not sure. It seems that they could just switch the icons around and it would be normal.
I also noticed that the orientation of the ortho views seems strange. I would think that when looking from the top view that the front would be at the top of the screen, back at the bottom of the screen, right at the right of the screen, and left at the left of the screen. Instead, the front is at the left of the screen, the back is at the right of the screen, the right is at the top of the screen, and the left is at the bottom of the screen.
It seems strange to me. Not sure I understand the logic of the view orientations. :confused: |

The more observant amongst you may also have noticed that the icons in the model side (and those in the larger top toolbar I made) are different to those in player side.....enough said...:( |

Here in the UK we are taught First Angle Projection like in the larger image below. I believe that the USA use the Third angle projection as in the smaller image, although ironically, despite being from the BBC website, no student I know uses either of those formats in the small image (Plan normally goes below Front on left side of paper); the top one is how we 'were' taught.
Ideally tS would configure layouts the same way-that is how I do orthographic work.

Splinters..this article describes pretty much the way I learned to do it some 35 yrs ago in canada..when you where just a wee nipper..:D
front ,top and side
http://www.cdli.ca/depted/g7/ortho.htm
really the symbols should have remained exactly like they were in ts6.6 ..right or wrong, with the same type of images representing front, side, etc..new spruced up images of course :) ..but even the images are reversed from those in ts6.6..
from the article above ->" the longest part of the object in the Front View", the icon image representing it should be longer than one for the sides..exactly like in ts6.6
mind you it would be great if we could rotate top and bottom views to the orientation that best suits what you are working on..:)

You need to read into this a bit Stan, I never said tS7 was right (or wrong). I simply supplied icons based on orthographic views and that was that. How they were assigned was down to someone else. I have been asking for a long time to get those same icons into the player side...ever noticed that they are not actually the same icons as model side:rolleyes:
As I already mentioned, the UK uses a different standard of orthographic to the US (does Canada follow Europe or US?) I realise that different users need different layouts-perhaps that is why there is no set convention. |

Splinters..I know it wasn't up to you..but you are the icon master :)
maybe you could create a set of classic style view icons for us....with the front door on the long side of the house = front view..:banana:

Aah...Stan, so many cool concepts have fallen by the wayside in bringing this UI to you. I just make them and send them. However, on this one, I did see the front of the house as a direct analogy for front view. The orthographic convention you follow takes the largest side of the object as the front-confusing no?
I went for simple; front of house, side of house and top down view...it's a british thing, then again Roman is not British. If he asks for a new set-they will be done. If enough people as for a custom set to change their top toolbar...they will be done. At the moment I am trying to make nice 7.5 icons for you...:cool: |

We are all curious at heart, so if you wonder how I use orthographic views then here is my standard layout. The top image represents an illustration layout when I want to get in close for poly modelling etc. I use the small window for composing and test renders (much faster at small res). I have numbers 1-7 to cycle through all the orthographic views (and perspective) in the main window.
The bottom layout is my 'CAD' layout for more technical work. Again, I use the fourth view for 3D tests. Nothing special here-just standard 4 view layout adjusted to suit...:)
Now if tS were to automatically size the object to fit in one view and then size and align in each other view-that would make me very happy indeed. |

Hi all..
I work a bit on player, and try this...
Select the 4 views.... close 1 from the top and one from the bottom ...
You get.. 2 diferent view horizontaly... Now.. one select Playre mode.. and the other model mode...
Now.. select the camera view... on both windows.... You see the player look he model look at the same time.. if you move the camera.. you see the same on the player than the model.. (allwais with the bridge on etc)
THE PROBLEM ITS.. if you look well.. exist diferences on the perspecive view form the model and the player.. Like diferences on the angle of the camera.. Its like a bug.. or it need more calibration...
Check folks on your homes.. and enjoy with player and model diferences...
BTW.. The proyector light.. its squared on model mode and circler on player... its like a spotlight than a proyector light.. try to make a cinema on player mode... LOLZ

It's not based on floating, and I haven't tried the larger toolbar yet. Strange thing is, they are working again in all layouts. I don't know what made them to fail. I could klick on any of them, the view changed just for a fraction of a second and then switched back to the previous. Anyway, it seems to be working again. |
