Hi,
I'm working on a system with two 17 inch LCD monitors, using TS 6.6 and 7.1. Whenever I try to drag a window from TS to the second monitor, it fails. The current hardware setup has two different display cards, is that the problem? Or have I misread the intention of that layout option?
Thanks,
Peter |

Hi. Not sure as to the exact location, but there is a preference setting where you have to enable the Dual Monitors checkbox. That should help.

Thanks. I looked and found the setting you are referring to. Unfortunately, it didn't resolve the issue. As soon as I drag a window, such as the Scene Editor from the monitor where TS is running, and the last part of the window leaves the first monitor, the window just stops, that part of the display goes crazy and the window returns to the first. The only way to display it again is to use the task bar to bring it forward.
Least I can run my Web browser and the TS manual in the second monitor.
:-)
Thanks,

In tS7:
First try selecting the dual monitor tab and see what that does (i've never got it to work but I presume it is meant to)
Second try selecting the floating tab and then drag the required window over onto the second monitor.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the ideas. I just tried them both and neither worked. :-(
However, I did just learn that SnagIt will grab both screens at one time. That a new trick that I didn't know about. You can see what happens in the image I've uploaded. So long as I don't release the window that I'm trying to drag to the second monitor, I can move it around and paint a wonderful mess. The moment I release, the window reappears on the original monitor.
Guess I'm stuck with a single monitor for TS. I'm wondering if the fact that this computer has two different cards is playing a role in this. No way to test without spending another $150 to buy a second card to match the better one of the two.
Thanks,
Peter |

I've never seen that sort of thing happen before however
Try installing ultramon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/download.asp)it usees its own software to setup dual monitors 'properly' this may solve your problems. It also adds a taskbar to your second monitor if you want.
Also windows screengrab function is meant to grab both screens at once if your using a dualmon setup. |

I know I've used 2 different graphics cards [the original Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO, & a Voodoo 3 2000] in the [distant] past, & I don't recall having any probs dragging progs from 1 screen to the other. Having said that, I also can't remember whether I used tS with that setup, as I was only using my system like that for a few weeks before I got a newer card that was dual-monitor capable.
What cards do you have ATM? And are neither of them dual-monitor capable? If not, I'm guessing they're pretty old, as the majority of cards made in the last few years have that capability - even models cheaper than the price you mention [unless you live somewhere like New Zealand, Australia, or possibly even Canada ;)].
A thought just occurred to me. You do know that you can run an analogue monitor [either a CRT or an LCD that has only analogue input] from a DVI connector on a graphics card, don't you? That is, as long as it's a DVI-I port & not a DVI-D. DVI-I carries both analogue & digital signals, DVI-D is just digital.

If it does have a DVI-I port, all you need to connect it to an analogue monitor is a DVI-I to SVGA adapter. Most cards with a DVI-I port usually come with 1, though some manufacturers can be a bit stingy. |

Hi Peter, I was having simalar problems to you. What works on my comp.
is I run extended desktop and load default layout and click Restore Down
and re-size the main window left or right into the 2nd moniter. Then you can
re-arrange your windows and save the new layout.
The point is this is 1 main window with other window docked into it.
You have to watch that you don't get too many 3D windows open or your
vid card may not be too happy.

I believe he was using the term "icons" as a euphamism [sorry if you're not familiar with that word - I tried to find the German equivalent, but neither Babelfish, InterTran, nor Worldlingo could help] for the young lady's upper-torso extrusions. ;) |
