I had asked back a few months a go about wine cellar racks and if any one had a good way of making them, after a little time this is what I cam up with. I did this back in 7.11 but had to do some tweaks on it and did them in TS 7.51 and it Handles the high polygons so much better. The light is not wright to me and I need to work on the wood some more. I would love some feed back on this. One more thing does any one know where I can get a good stone texture for the walls

I like everything, except the bottles. :D

While bottles come in many shapes and sizes, I prefer when they are made of glass...

I see what you mean, they look like they are made of metal. Need to work on that too. To make glass look better Is it a good idea to make the battle a shell then put the texture on? I do not have v-ray yet but I soon will. Skipper do you work a lot in the work space window. I am now trying to focus on that window for render but I am having a little trouble in getting my mind around it any help to make it look more real.

Unfortunately, I'm not that far yet, so I can't help you there. But there is a thread in this sub-forum about making realistic looking glass (Glass Experiment), perhaps you can check out to see if that fits your needs.

I saw the glass experiment thread. Played around a little with HDRI and jot this. Let me know what you think.

Ah, now the bottle looks like it's made of glass. :D Great work!!

I somehow have the feeling that the shape and color of a bottle gives away its (expected) contents.

The shape of your current bottle isn't really a wine bottle, but I would expect to find some spicy oil in it to put on an pizza for instance. :) If you would change the top and make it a cap and try a brownish color, then your bottle could actually look like a nice beer bottle.

Dark pot-bellied bottles usually either contain fruity red port wine or a genie. Square bottles usually hold whiskey or some other strong alcohol. White or rather clear cylindrical bottles usually contain home-distilled spirits. :D

Wine bottles usually have a greenish color and a medium cylindrical girth (you can easily grasp it with one hand) with a conical top ending in a tube. Champagne bottles have a very distinctive shape too and almost look like bowling pins.

But don't take my word for it. I am not a wine expert. ;)

it looks over-lit, could you turn the lights down a bit? It would probably give it more atmosphere

I stand corrected. I had no idea, ice wine, sounds like it's harvested late in the season.

Darn Italian restaurants, they use ice wine bottles for serving their spicy oil. :D

Can some one help? I want to learn more about the work space window but I feel like I am hitting my head on a brick wall. I am trying to render this cellar in the work space window and I can't get it to render the HDRI image, is this a short coming in the W.S. window or am I just monitor or manul blind..

Sorry I can't help you with your WS questions - I only use WS as a ... er... workspace! I like raytraced images and don't have Vray so I do my rendering in LightWorks on the Model side.

I like your bottle though - although I agree with Skippers analysis, it looks like a fine oil bottle rather than a typical wine bottle.

You've done some good work on your cellar too. I would give some further thought to the texturing though - the rough cast walls look a little too rough and the wood textures on the wine racks doesn't look convincing. Try using some photographic textures and add some layers for distressing, aging and dust build up - wine cellars are usually dark and somewhat dirty.

The modelling so far looks good - with a little more texture work and some attention to the lighting of the sceneyou'll end up with something great I think.

I think you need vray to render anything in workspace, i noticed you said you don't have it but will get it soon do you have it now or are you still waiting? if you dont you'll have to render in the model side.

well.. according to the description, you weren't actually totally wrong:

Perfect for ice wines, cordials, vinegars and oils
:jumpy:

Oh, and an Ice Wine is a type of desert wine that is made from grapes that were frozen on the vine. The best Ice wines are German and Canadian.

You need VRay to be able to render on the WS side, I know this because I don't own VRay, and when I click on the render button on the WS side, it doesn't do anything.... :( HTH

I do not have V-ray. Still waiting to git it and thanks about the info on work space. Thanks Wizard for the Idea about the wall, it is suppose to be a wall hued out of stone but I got a little happy with the wall, I am going to turn it down. And a big thanks to all of you who has given me a lot of good ideas. One more thing what is a good way to do dust, to make it look like dust? I have tried before but with no success.

Maybe volumetrics? I don't know; I've had problems with dust, too...

I believe the simbiont shaders and plugins are free now:

There is at least one dust shader included.
