I'm trying to figure out how to create an image used for skyboxes. I'm using terragen to create the image. (I renderd 4 images so they can match evenly to circulate around the 3D skybox in Truepace) Anyway, I did that. but one thing would make the skybox look alot better......trying to figure out a way to avoid the image on the skybox looking like this on the ceiling view (click on attachment) How do I make something like a skybox like this make everything match as if I was outside looking up in the sky? |

hehe, yes funny right.
Even I didn't found out how I could avoid this distortion at center of the sphere in my Backyard scene. I used a angular hdri and tweeked it so far that the distortion is barely visible but I couldn't avoid it.
We don't have the right projection methods for this.
But I'm open for suggestions. |

I created a couple of skyboxes in terragen (for games), and I have a script that renders them automatically (5 images). The trick is, you acutally have to apply it to a box, not a half dome (thus called skybox). I'll work on a scene and a short tutorial how to do it. |

OK, here's a videotutorial of the most important steps in terragen, image editor (PSP in this case) and trueSpace. You can download the scene and try it out. The higher the resolution of the sky image, the better the result. With low resolution, seams might be quite visible. The box (cube) in the scene is already mapped properly.

Trueblue: I have TS6.6 and the file you provided won't open in TS. (.rsobj)? Do you have Ts7? |

Graysho, good tutorial. I already had something similar set in place, but have long since forgotten what exactly I did. Using the skybox, I built a scene and using an animated camera, rendered 6 screens; front, left, back, right, top and bottom. Again, square images, check the aspect ratio of the camera.
Using GoCubic (http://www.panoguide.com/howto/display/gocubic.jsp), I made this for a friend's website:
