Hi kids!!

I have a Technical Question About the Nurbs...

When i make a simple cube.. and add nurb patch (I dont remember if its that name..) The Cross jejeje you know..

Well I remember on TS5 when you add the nurb to an object you can edit.. but you edit the original cube and you see behind in trasparent mode the nurbs and you can mover but the cube still on there..

Now on TS6.6 and 7 you can edit the nurb like a polygon.. Nice... if you whant add details to the object.. But you cant Model like the old style..

Yesterday i working on a cube with quaddiv .. i add nurbs and merge another cube.. and then you can edit like the old way....

The question is... 1) are a way to edit from the old and new style??? or this is a workarround??

Best Regards...

Later maybe i up pics...

Well.. i think my english its not good enough yet... :(

I try to explain with a screenshot.

If you add Subdivision layer to a primitive.. you get the ts6 model style.. Its like model a polygon... you can sweep faces.. all..

But if you add another primitive to the object with subdivision layer.. you can edit like the ts5.1 syle...

To my opinion both are exelent ways to model..

MY QUESTION IS.. This is a workarround?? or are another way to choose how you wont to edit a subdivision layer???

Best Regards...

No response from me. I still have no idea what you are asking - and the link you provided goes to a page that tells me it is an 'invalid attachment.'

I don't understand the question, so can't answer. I am not sure if this is NURBS, or SDS. If NURBS, then I don't get the part about doing point editing type editing (not possible with NURBS). If it's SDS, I don't know what it means by "merging" another cube into it.

If it's SDS, then it could be the difference in the way SDS layers are handled (tS6.6 and above allow you to edit SDS at all the levels of SDS you apply, not just at the base level - you select which layer you are editing using the spheres to choose which level, and your edit cage gets progressively simpler, ie less subdivided, with each lower layer you select).

But that might not be it. The image would be useful :)

are 2 diferets ways to model a sub Division Layer...

The showed on the right its like TS5.. and the Left.. like TS6...

My question is.. this is a workarround to edit a mesh like ts5??? or are a option to choose how you whant to edit...

Best Regards..

In the pic here you can see that I've selected a different subdivision level to edit by clicking on the little spheres to choose which one I want. These speheres are accessed by right clicking on a subdivided object (and you must have 3d controls enabled).

If you boolean union another object to the first, it looks like it defaults to the lowest 'editing level' (what you called TS5 style) upon right clicking.

I don't see the little spheres in your image so I am thinking this is maybe what you are missing.

I think its a problem on the UI. because must be a button on somewere to select this... I never use the 3d controls... But now i know where can i findit..

What Chester said :)

It does indeed sound like it is the SDS layers - when you first edit, you will edit the highest level of SDS, not the lowest level. Looks like the boolean does indeed reset your editing to the lowest level.

But it is achievable without that, just use those spheres to choose the level you want to edit.

you're welcome prodigy... the various layers are also very useful for just subdividing certain sections...ie you can select some faces and add a subdivision layer to just those faces (and select those faces again using the little spheres) to avoid huge poly counts. I haven't quite got the hang of it myself yet but is worth looking into.
