Hi everyone, I'm trying to make a gallery of all of my "artwork" (if you can really call it that....) using TrueSpace 7.51. What I'm trying to do is make an exterior wall around the building but under the roof (the 3rd pic), and I was able to do that, but I can't hollow it to make the inside of the building. When I try to object subtract it, it gives me an error message. Should I do the subtraction first, then the deformation? The 4th pic is a wireframe view of my exterior wall. The person you see on the stairs is for reference, so don't worry about him... Here's what I have so far: |

Truespaced, this is a really nice building. Don't put down your artwork like that, we all have room for improvement. I used to do the same thing but then someone told me to never apologize for your work, it sets up people to have a negative impression.
As far as the object subtraction, I don't know why you're getting an error, but give doing the deformation after a shot. There must be a way. |

Thanks 3dfrog, I was going to go somewhere, but it just started raining, so now I have some time...

Alright, I got the exterior wall to work! :D Now I'm going to have to do the inside.... What do you think the easiest way to do that is? It's kinda hard to keep your view within a building without going through walls, if you've ever tried that...
Here's an update: |

Hey truSspaced could you post some differant perspective views of the wire frame, there appears to be some boolean leftovers in the one you posted. If that is true you'll need to clean them up before proceeding. Im not a guru by anyones measure, just lots of practice cleaning up after my own booleans. Can give tips on how to get to those pesky interior vertices if you want em. |

Ya, the wireframe is kinda crazy, though, you probably won't be able to tell what anything is.... Were there any specific parts of the building you thought had the boolean leftovers? If so, I can post wireframes of an individual object. Thank you for the response.

Here's an update; I textured it. I'm getting a couple of problems, though, and I don't know how to fix them... You can see some of the glass showing through the paneling.... And the fan effect on glass was unintentional; it just did that when I bent it. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! |

Here, I'll get up nice and close on the problem, because I know it's kinda hard to see...
See how part of the panel sinks beneath the glass? Is there an easy way to fix that, or do I have to redo the paneling?
The glass and the paneling are two seperate objects, and I think I saved the glass and the panel before I bent it, so it wouldn't be terrible if I had to remake the paneling.
Any tips?
Thanks in advance! :D

Here's yet another problem. I changed the lighting and added framing to the exterior wall, but now there's a random hole in the roof. Do I need to redo the whole roof?

I think just triangulating the glass would solve the last problem. For the panelling, try adding some more edges where it sinks through the glass and raise it up a little. |

on this wire frame, a top view a front view & close-ups of the marked areas.
The long diagonal lines are what caught my eye first. On the front portion of your interior wall one of the diagonals appears to terminate at the top of wall. This is in the middle box i marked. Zoom in a lot, grab the vertice in point edit mode & move it, the undo button is your secret wepon here. what your looking for are extra vertices you didnt know were there and edges attached to the vertice moved, you didn't expect to move. Now hit hit the undo button and put the vertice you moved back where it was. Before you start editing make shure your object selection properties box is open, this is your best friend keep it close. Once you've found the extra vertices & edges
it'time to clean up. If you find you can't select a vertice it's probaly inside the structure. So select the one next to it and write down it's location from
the properties box. ( i use a program called grabXP to to grab a shot of the properties box it saves a lot of writing ) Now take the vertice you can select and push it to the interior of the structure so the offending vetice is now on the outside of the structure. Once its selectable select it & delete it. Then select the vertice you moved, go to the properties box & hilight X axis, type in the original location numbers then tab to Y axis do the same, then Z same then hit enter. The moved vertice is now back in its original position. On the face of the interior roof structure that didnt render you'll probaly find you can't select it as a face, if so grab the vertices you thought made up the face & move them one at a time, undo after each move. Here you'r looking for a missing edge, just add the edge back & the face will render. If you can select it as a face then the face is reversed.
Hope this helps gonegrey |

All I can say is wow. I thought this thing was a goner! Thank you so much turumdarak!
I triangulated the glass part of the roof, then instead of moving the panels up (it didn't really work too well), I moved the glass down, and it looked great!
I also triangulated the panels because they were having the same problem as the glass.
I'm rendering it now, and I'll post it when it's finished (the last one took like 8 minutes)!
Thanks,

Thank you for the concern gonegrey, but I replaced that shape already with something more clean and hollow, so I can now add an inside (Post #4). Thank you very much, though! I'm sure that that will help me in the future!

I added the front doors (they're sliding doors), made the entire building a little taller, put a wall inside (still debating on how it should be designed), and recolored the exterior wall to be a lighter blue than the roof. Any comments, critiques or suggestions more than welcome! :D

Another view of the outside. I know I'm posting a lot; it's mainly because the forums automatically compress a picture, which I can use for other stuff later....

I decided to leave the little guy I was once using for reference there; do you think I should get rid of him?

The last render on the water is very nice! If you want a cartoon look keep the guy but if your after realism replace him.
I'm not crazy about your Winners, Runner Up signs, you can do better. |

Steinie- Lol, I know that the inside needs a lot of work... I don't think I'll keep the "signs" (just a bunch of letters floating in the air that look like they're attatched to the wall, just in case you couldn't tell ;)), I might just use the outside design, because it ended up coming out really good. I don't know if I should have a cartoonic or realistic scene... In the building itself I was going for realism, but it's floating on the water, which isn't too realistic, especially since it's made of steel and glass ;)! I don't know, which do you think would probably be best? I'm going for a modern look, if you didn't notice, and i was thinking about maybe adding some lights on the outside, but i don't know... I don't want to put too much in it, because I tend to do that a lot....
Prodigy- I like the statue suggestion! Wouldn't be too hard, either, just take crazy bob and make him gray and bumpy! :D I don't think I'm going to have statues, though. I really do like the idea, but I'm going for a more modern look, and you normally find statues in traditional styles. Most of the time modern is basic, basic shapes, most of the time a contrast of dark and light, and usually a lot of the same materials, and not too many details. At least that's what I think of modern architecture, maybe someone else has a different opinion, but idk... Thank you so much for the response, though!
If anyone else wants to critique it (don't worry about the inside, I'll probably just get rid of it...), please feel free!:D

I am unfortunately unable to make the changes now, my mom has kicked me off of the computer with the scene on it... Maybe tomorrow, if not definitely Monday I'll be able to work on it. Steinie, do you think I should put anything on the inside?

I'm really not sure.... At first I wanted to put planes in there with pictures of renders I've made in the past, organized by how they were ranked in the main Caligari gallery, but now I think I'll just keep the building. I don't think I'm putting anything in it. A bit too hard to anyway...

Wow. That last render is looking really nice TrueSpaced!
I think having people on the steps helps clue the viewer in to the dramatic size of the building. Maybe just some generic gallery goers would be better? Say a mom and her son? I one of them has red clothing it would really pop against the blue and gold colors.
Great work with this! :)
