Hi All
I have just upgraded my development PC to the final 'ultimate' release of the new MS Vista operating system (this is the full release not a beta or RC1), TS 7.11 fails to run past the initial splash screen, when a dialog box saying TS has stopped working is displayed. This is the 32 bit version, not the 64 bit (which has virtually no 64 bit drivers available and is as good as unusable!).
I am using an AMD X2 3800 - 1GB Ram - a Radeon 9600 card which is using the default MS Vista drivers as AMD/ATI have not yet released the new Vista drivers. This system used to run TS 7.11 prior to upgrading to Vista.
Does TS 7.11 require directX to be installed? T.hje graphics system in Vista, I believe, now no longer uses directX.
Has anybody else had this problem?
Is there a work around?
(I got the full Vista release as I am a professional member of the MS developer network and it has been released early to developers for testing / developing their products on.)
Thanks in advance.

tS7.x must have at least DirectX 9.0c to run.
As for running tS7 under Vista - it's not been checked. tS7.11 was released back in the Spring and as you know, Vista has only just launched so it wasn't possible to predict what would happen when running tS7.11 under an operating system that was unreleased, changing and still in beta itself. |

This should NOT be considered an official response, but you may be able to run properly if you "Run as Administrator" if you have User Access Control enabled. This was necessary for me to run earlier versions of trueSpace under Vista when I was testing it (my workstation is currently XP).
However, your running the default graphics drivers might well be the sticking point. Vista does indeed use DirectX (extensively), and because tS7 makes use of advanced features than most other productivity apps, it would much prefer optimized drivers.
In short - and again I stress this is not an official answer - there's going to be some period of indeterminate length before:
Vista is released to consumers AND
Hardware vendors release drivers AND
trueSpace is updated (if necessary) to work with Vista changes
but rest assured it will eventually all come together. I can't wait to work with Vista on a daily basis again; I swear it's faster than XP for me. |

My opinion...
1) Vista have the new DX10 ... maybe its a problem...
2) Try to start TS7 with the Control presed an select on Real time mode ( Wireframe)
Good luck |

I thought the consumer version of Vista was to have both DirectX9.0c and DX10.
DX10 was developed as an independent entity in order to get rid of the bloat that backwards compatibility would have brought with it if it were to have been built "on top of" DX9.0c. DX10 also introduces a new, more simplified development architecture.
Microsoft did not lose sight of the fact that numerous applications are built using the previous (current) DirectX APIs - these two systems according to them are supposed to be able to cooperate without any problems.
...at least that's the way I heared it. |

Hi All
Thanks for the replies. The version of Vista I am using is the final release version, not a beta, it has just not hit the streets yet, look on the microsoft MSDN site http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/windowsvista/default.aspx.
Bad I know, but I always log on with full admin privs, so that is not the issue.
It does look like I am going to have to wait for AMD/ATI to develop the drivers.
Cheers
