I do most of my technical 3D drawing in Turbocad, I can export in a range of formats. I am fairly new to TS7 and wanted to move some detailed drawings into TS7 so I purchased the conversion pack.
Unfortunately all I get when I try .dxf or .sat files is a message that says:
error restor entity from file
Error #15005 - save file is from later version of Acis.
Beginning to wish I had saved my money. Are Caligari using an old version of the Spatial Technologies ACIS I would have thought that I would have been able to just open the file in TS7 - even a simple cube failed!:(
Certainly they have not made it straight forward to use. |

The Cad software has ability to save files to newer version of ACIS than trueSpace is capable of reading. Twist is to save from CAD software to earlier version of .sat(ACIS). Could very well be a version problem with .dxf as well. The .dwg (R2000) is one that folks like to use from conversion pack.
Hope this helps. |

I don't have tS7, but try importing as a polymesh.
I don't think many 3D packages import solids.
Any autocad specific software should have the ability to save as a polymesh so that it is easier to import that.
Make sure that your lines are closed and not open that could lead to an error as well. |

Thanks Norm, I tried a .dwg file and just got a single word - Error!
Don't really want to go back through to earlier version of Turbocad as most of my files are derived from TC12.
Just to check I saved the file (a basic cube) as a .dwg, closed TurboCad (just in case) and then tried to open the file in model view file>load>object and then navigate to the file.
Result is an error message. |

I have worked down all the .dxf and .dwg formats from R14, R2000 and R2004/2005 and all return an error.
Would have thought that an item called 'conversion pack' would have um! converted?
Can't think of anything less complicated or ubiquitous than AutCad R14 .dxf/.dwg.
Surely someone must have tried to import using these formats? |

By R2000, I was referring to .dwg format. DXF I suggest try oldest format from CAD software as export setting. |

HI,
I tried winding back the .dwg and .dfx files but no luck.
I then tried the ACIS .sat files, currently the program I use has Spatial Technology R15 engine. I tried dropping the release and found the R1.6 would work and R8 would not.
In the end I found that .sat files R7 will work OK. I tried importing a very complex structure (A new helicopter rotor system) and it successfully imported the object - see attchment.
So if anyone uses TC then .sat files R8 will work OK.
PS How do you open the file settings without opening the file - it is OK the second time but the first time I found the settings button greyed out until I had loaded the file. |

Still on TS6.6 here. I'm not sure why the button was greyed out. Did you select File>load>object and then the type of file you were going to import from the list below 'filename'? |

I think the reason is that I have set my machine to 'single click' operation, so therefore, I should only hover over the filename and then select 'settings'.
I think the Caligari could have been more up to date with the Spatial Technology engine, does this mean that TS7 only uses the R8 engine?
Thank you |

I have my machine set on single click here as well; There was no need to highlight a file. In the lower scrolling list, select the type of file (dxf, sat, etc) rather than the default (all object formats) which is displayed. You should then be able to access those particular import options. |
