Hi, just returning to 3D work after a long time away and dusting off my copy of 6.6 and was hoping someone could help me with this. Is there any way that a solid one piece, fully boned character can be run through facial animator? I always used to split my models into parts and hide the joins but i saw something in a tread here that sugested this could be done but i haven't been able to do it. Also, is it worth updating to 7.1 (there seems to be some negative vibes going around about it) or should i wait for 7.5?

In Short: not that i know of.

What about using Motion Studio bones system? Is freeware nowadays. And can be found at the Primitive Itch page. I have sucessfully created a basic facerig with simply using bones for it. Needs some experience though. And has its limits. For best results you could use Multimorph (can be found at CKGamesfactory). Here you model your poses and morph between them ...

TS7 comes with stuff like HDRI and a second render engine. And you can buy a cut down version of VRay for it too. Which may give you more realistic results than with TS6.6. I would nevertheless wait for 7.5. Better for 8 or 9 or even 10. Dependand of when the Bridge is removed. I have TS 7.11 installed. And still work with TS 6.6 for good reasons. TS 7.11 is a pain to work with.

Thanks Tiles, didn't think it was possible but i wanted to make sure. I take it that it's still not possible in 7.11 as well.

To be honest it's not realistic rendering i'm after now, it's animation. I want to do a few short animations with a cell- shaded style, kind of like that 'Skyland' program on ITV. I've seen some of the stuff that can be done in Vray and it is impressive, i'd even consider buying it when i upgrade. It seems to be like a broken record here now but i wish Caligari whould just focus on animation for a few versions now. The modelling tools are fine, the rendering is solid in TS, better with vray, if they just got the animation up to scratch truespace would be a formidable program.

Amen Brother!

tS is about 10 years behind other apps in animation. I'm getting so used to Animation Master now, I'm spoiled with the animation goodies in it.

I was thinking of getting animation master, the dollar to pound ratio at the moment makes it very tempting but i was put off by some problems listed in reviews (long render times, crashes ect...), whats your experience of it? I think i'll wait till 7.5 is released before i make any choices though.

Well, since Roman may not like me advertising another product on his board, I'll just say that I like it very much. Go view their video gallery for proof and you will be astounded.

I have an older version of Animation Master (2000 I think). Its strong point was definitely "animation" as the title suggests. You pretty much are modelling with splines though so if you prefer straight polygon stuff and SDS then you're best to stick with other apps. Splines do make for nice smooth jointed animations though.

Maybe the new version has more features. Never really updated AM because I found I didn't use it enough to justify the upgrade. That's just me though.

Aye Professor, splines are different if you are not used to them. There has been quite a few improvements in AM.

I like to think of splines as rope. One of the tricks I taught myself is taking a pre-done model and use the splines to model around it. It goes down easy and after you're finished, you have your "frozen rope" nicely aligned.

tS too has splines and probably could have done more with them if they would have taken a more agressive approach to splinemanship and animation.

And I can import/export 3DS models completely textured into let's say Bryce, Vue or some other application I find necessary.

If I need to make a five minute animation in less than an hour. Where do you think I turn? :D
