I am fairly new to the clip concept and am wondering if there is a way to paste clips into the same "lane" as an existing clip.
Say I have a 10 frame clip which toggles the visiblility of an object (a visible KF and an invisible KF). What I'd like to do (as an example) is have the object's visibility change at frame 10 (to 20) then at 60 (to 70), then at 100 (to 110)
If I copy the clip then paste it, it creates a new channel\lane each time I paste it. Since it is the exact same animation info, it makes more sense to me to have it all in one lane; by the end of a long animation you could have a full screen of clips essentially performing the same function. I'm thinking it should work more along the lines of a midi sequencer..one lane for bass, one for drums etc...
Hopefully I am just doing something wrong..
if someone has any tips or ideas of the intended workflow concept of clips that might make it more clear, please feel free to mention them
thanks |

Why not just use the loop feature? |

loop doesn't allow you to space them at desired intervals.. only repeat endlessly (as far as I can figure anyway) |

Do you mean layered animation?
i.e. make a copy of keyframes, paste them as a layer. |

I'm not sure what you mean by layered anim., but it sounds interesting. Can you explain please?
The image below shows what I mean I hope..
if I want the same animation but at irregular intervals and lengths(ie not looped or toggled) and it is the exact same (keyframe-wise)each time, then I would prefer to have all the clips in the same row. |

Well, does it work with several lines? Then i wouldn't bother because of the multilines. Just an estethic thing as long as it works :P
What about setting the scene view mode to keyframes, and simply copy n paste the keyframes ? |

Yes, all this is true. I was mostly just verifying that this was the way it has to be. It's a little more than aesthetic though; in another thread (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=1774) Frank was discussing the use of object replacement to animate characters talking etc. If each phoneme\mouth shape object had it's own clip containing visible\invisible keyframes, then it would be easy to place them at desired locations in the timeline to match a speech .wav file. Still is easy to do, but with the existing pasting behaviour you may end up with a whole screen full of one clip where it seems, to me, to be a better idea if each mouth shape had it's own track in the CE.
Really the same 'problem' exists with any repeatable animation that doesn't go constantly for the whole animation; a walk cycle which you want to stop at a certain point and then resume etc
The only way to do this would be to be with keyframes as you suggested. Not quite as elegant and simple as sliding clips, but certainly doable.
