I am working on some animation and I need the eyes to wink and they are nothing more than cylinders and I need to be able to make them swash and stretch is there any way of attaching the skeleton and still isolating the eyes and doing what I want. Frank Ladner demo reel has what I want in the eyes can any one helllp.:confused:

Hi btspro!


In that eye blink animation, I simply used sphere objects with scale keys set. More than likely the blink was done in 5 frames or so. The first and fifth frames were identical, with the third (middle) frame being the "squashed" sphere. For a bit extra you can key the fourth frame so that the eye is scaled up a bit larger than the fifth frame. This gives just a slight "pop" to the blink.


Are you attaching the eyes as object (not skin) to bones? It's been a while since I've used native tS bones but in MotionStudio you have to attach the object without skinning enabled so that you can set scale keyframes. I think this was the same for native bones.


If that doesn't work you can try attaching a null/invisible object to the bone, with your eye object glued to the null object. This will give you an eye that isn't attached directly to the bone, which should allow you to set scale keys.

Hi Frank:

Thanks for the info I used the attach object to bone function and it worked great. I am now able to squash and stretch the eyes.
