I have been working with the Organic modeling courses using ver 6.6. I think the course was created using an earlier version. In SDS ed using the control mesh, in the videos it displays the wire mesh polys, but in version 6.6 I can not figure out how to get it to display like the video. If I edit while displaying the control mesh the object is displayed as a solid transparent display. How do I get it to display the polymesh. See attached image.
Thanks |

tS6.6 lets you add more layers, and edit the one you choose. If you add 2 layers in tS5 (shown in the video), you can still only edit the base layer, the original poly mesh.
In tS6.6 (and above), with 2 layers of SDS, you can edit the original level as above, or you can edit the level with one level of SDS applied.
You choose different levels to edit using the small spheres that appear in the 3D workspace when working in Point Edit with an SDS object. See attached grab, the left is the default editing of the highest (most detailed) SDS layer - by selecting the other sphere for the lower layer, I get access to the original mesh, just as happened in earlier versions.
HTH!

Yes, thanks.
Its true that "by selecting the other sphere for the lower layer, I get access to the original mesh, just as happened in earlier versions.", but its without the polymesh being displayed, only a transparent object. I think the earlier version was better in that it displayed the sds polymesh. I will admit that you can simulate this to some degree by applying a shader. See attached image. |

Try going into file>preferences and uncheck 'transp. edit' .. this should allow you to set the subdiv mesh's display type (solid\wire\transp etc) .. if you have 'passthrough' on, the control mesh and the subd mesh will have the same display type..if you disable 'passthrough' you can change the control mesh and the subd mesh will remain the same based on whatever the display type is set to for the scene |

Thanks, I am not sure what you mean by 'passthrough'. Where are the controls. I didn't see this in the preferences. |

Either go to file>display options or right click on the "display as" icon (2nd from left in bottom row in the screenshot) and the little box shown will pop up then check\uncheck the 'Pass Thrgh.' box |
