I seem to have turned off texture mapping for an object in my scene in TS 7.11 and for the life of me can't figure out how to turn it back on again. In the model window, the texture appears on the object. I recall in TS 6.6 you could click on a sphere hovering around the selected object and use it to tell how to render the object. Maybe I'm not remembering right though. Thanks for your help!

Right click the yellow sphere "Orient Selector". You have to have 3D controls checked in Preferences though.

OK I found the sphere and looked around the icons it offered, and went through the manual, but didn't find anything related to telling the object to render the texture instead of the base material. To give you an idea what I mean, I've attached a picture. Note how part of the wing appears red. That's the base material. The material itself, however has "Aluminum4.jpg" as a texture. The texture shows up when I'm modeling, but not when rendering. Other objects in the scene don't have this problem so I'm perplexed.

Am I missing a setting? It just started happening, and I don't think I changed any settings for the wing. The texture used to show up. The only thing I did recently was mirror model the wing.

Perhaps we misunderstand question.
I believe trueBlue was suggesting Textures from Illumination scenario. Per object solid, tranparent outline, transparent ... etc is also available.

Is this what you are referring to?

And important point here is that there is no "base material" in tS - if you have a texture map as the color, there is no color "underneath" the texture map. The texture map is the color.

You only get into base materials if you use layers, but the shader does not show layers here.

One thing that might cause this sort of effect is vertex painting. There is a way to clear all vertex painting - but I forget what it is off the top of my head! A forum search might uncover that old tip.

Not sure how that would have got on there though. I would simplify your scene down to just the offending object, save it as a test scene, and experiment to find the cause. If you use Paint Over, does it change all the faces on the model in the realtime preview? If you use Inspect, can you see differences in the material? If the other side (before modeling) is rendering correctly, try mirroring again to see if it works better. Try flipping those faces that render different in case their normals are reversed. Try applying a UV map and see if it changes anything (could be the UV map is corrupted, that's an idea actually, I might test that first if I were you).

HTH!

Well, after experimenting a bit (thanks, Tom), I chopped the wing in half, messed with the geometry a bit, then mirror modled the wing. That did the trick, and the texture is showing up again. Thanks all for your help!
