Hello,
tS7 just crashed on me, and now all of the projects are missing from the projects menu. Where would they be stored? I've tried looking through the trueSpace7 folder, but I don't see any of my projects listed there. Is there some way to fix this. Otherwise, this crash has wiped out months of work.
The crash occured during a render of an animation. It pretended to render the last 10 frames of the sequence by creating empty 1K targas. Windows Task manager said the program was still running, and I was able to move objects in the modeler window, but when it came to rendering(to file, to screen, or a portion of the screen) the program would not respond. I shut tS7 down and when it reopened it was or a different project, and the project window was empty.
Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do next?
thanks,
David |

That sounds like the same bug that used to happen in tS66. It would occasionally crash on me and the current scene would disappear from the file system.
Usually after I restarted, the scene would show up or would get a filename0000.scn name. |

The storage location for tS7 is
trueSpace7/tS/
IN there are folders named "Rs" something. Most likely you will want to check Rslibraries. In there, Projects Items would store separate folders for each project.
EDIT - BTW this sounds like one to contact tech support about too, as noted forum posts are fine, not forbidden or anything, but they can go unnoticed for a long time and not be seen by the right people. If months of work is at stake, I wouldn't rely on just a forum post to get help, so do email or call!
HTH!

At my point of view you lost the library..
You only must reload..
How???
Easy..
Right click on the scene librarys..
Then load on the library tab..
Browser..
Find your scene library on your HD.
Go to c:\truespace7\ts78
Usualy located on C:\truespace7\tS\library\
And there you can find all the object librarys and Scene librarys..
Folders.obl (Object Librarys)
Folders.scl (Scene librarys)
find your scene library open the folder and click on the file .scl
And thats all..
BTW, let me know if that helps |

Thank you for your responses over the weekend. I’m back, and trying to tackle this problem. I found some files named “.rprj” in the directory named “C:\Program Files\trueSpace7\tS\RS Configurations.” The names of these files line up with projects I’ve saved, but I’ve been unable to find the .RSPrj files which are the actual projects, right?
Just for clarification, I am only missing projects. I still have saved textures, objects, and scenes. However some of my more complex animations are only saved as projects. That is why I am anxious. I used the windows search assistant to try to find the missing Rsprj’s and RSLibPrj's but it was unable to find them on the C drive.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
David |

Create a dummy project and see where ts wants to save it. Chances are that is the directory you will find any saved projects. Worth a try. |

Hey Norm,
I tried creating and saving a new project which I cleverly called "FindMe." When I did a search for the name, two files showed up. One showed up as a .rprj and the other as a .rsitem. It did not show an RSPrj anywhere.
Also when I added the project to the library, the thumbnail came up as "image not available." Then when I tried to shut down tS7... it crashed.
What is the .rsitem file? I tracked that file down to C:\Program Files\trueSpace7\tS\RS Libraries\Projects Items. There I found three folders. Two of them I had just created today while trying to figure this all out, and one simply called project items which is empty. I am guessing that the "project items" folder. And the fact that it is empty shows that my projects are all gone, but I hope someone can prove me wrong.
Thanks,
David |

I just did a simple test and I saved my project as myproject.RSPrj in
C:\trueSpace7\tS\RS Libraries\Projects Items\Projects Items
Navigating there I see that it did save correctly.
Are you saving from the Stack within Projects library? |

trueBlue,
I am doing exactly like you just did, but the file saved in the project folder is a .rsitem.
What does this mean? Also, if the projects are suppose to be saved in the Projects Items, mine is empty... does that confirm my projects were deleted?
I don't know.

I can not say really. I think that the rsitem is library information like Help text information, etc...
I do not understand the different folders being created and what not. If you can not save as RSPrj something is certainly wrong. Like Tom said you should contact tech support. Just maybe you have saved by appending the rsitem. Try and do a search for
*.rsitem.RSPrj |

I also see that it is being saved in the C:\trueSpace7\tS\RS Configurations as a rprj file. Try this from within the Stack and the Projects library right click and choose Import Project and navigate to
C:\trueSpace7\tS\RS Configurations (or if you remember the folder you saved in)
then select All files (*.*) in Files of Type. Select the file with the rprj extention.
4608
Given the size of the file in the RS Configurations folder I would beleive that this is the actual file with your animations, objects, etc... Can not explain what the RSPrj is exactly nor the rsitem but their file size is much smaller.
Strange really  |

Hmmmm,
I tried importing the rprj's. I was able to import them into the project library, but once they were in the library I was unable to open the projects. I get the pop up about "changes to the current Scene are about to be lost. Continue Anyway?" I answer "yes" to continue, but nothing happens... nothing at all. Were you able to open the project created by importing an rprj?

Yes but be aware that tS7 shuts down and then reopens and or similar to what happens when you change layouts. Could be that your project is a large file size, and so give it a chance. Never really used projects before this trying to help you out. I beleive that projects not only store your scene information but also layout information. If all else fails I would shut down tS7 and start out fresh by deleting all the files listed in screen shot below. Restart tS7 and then try importing your rprj files again. |

Hmmm, I waited awhile and True space never shut down or reopened. After trying multiple times, I decided to shut down tS7 and tried to reopen it, but afterwards it failed to open. The splash screen would come up and then Windows would make it's dinging noise, and the splash page would go away.
I then deleted the init.js and the default.ctx, which normally fixes start up errors for me. However it continued to fail, so I had to reboot to get it to open again.
I've opened tS7 again, and tried opening one of those files and I getting the same non response. And it's not like true space is freezing up. There is not an hour glass icon when i scroll over the window, and the buttons and menus react fully when clicked.
trueBlue, I'm a bit concerned, about deleting all the files you mentioned out of pure paranoia. I was informed of the default.ctx and init.js by tech support, so I felt very secure with those. Do the other 5 files also recreate themselves when tS is launched? Sorry for my trepidation, please don't take offense as I greatly appreciate all of your efforts.
Thanks,
David |

Yes they get recreated. If you notice the Date Modified they are recreated each time you use trueSpace7. I have never deleted the init.js though. |

Well,
I deleted the files, and tried opening projects. I still cannot open the rprj files. Also whenever I open a project I have to reset the model window to Direct X and Direct 3D Hal in order to see the project.
Well that's about all I can take today. I'll dig back into these problems tomorrow morning.

So if you are in Model, why are you trying to open a Player project? You do know there are different projects on both sides of the bridge, right? There is Model (tS6.6) projects and then Player (tS7.11) projects. What I have gathered from you so far is, we are trying to open a Player project. |

Hello,
I am trying to open a model project. I wasn't aware there was a difference between player and modeler projects. I design and render everything from the modeler side, so I assumed all of my saved projects would be model projects.
Also I recieved some helpful news from Paul Ashington. He sent me this process which pretty much allowed be to restore my projects. Here are the instructions that were given:
Copy out the *.rprj that you wish to recover from the RS configurations” folder
1. create new project in the 7.11 project library and give it the same name as the *.rprj that you wish to recover
2. open c:\trueSpace71\tS\RS Configurations in explorer
3. replace the newly created *.rprj with your original one
Unfortunately there are some problems with some projects when they open. Sometimes the camera is reorientated. And sometimes objects are missing from the model window. Their names appear in the artist/developer window and the timeline but the actual objects are not visible in the model window. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Is there a way to fix it?
thanks,
David |
