Hm,
might I suggest having one poll for 32bit Vista(this one) and one for 64bit?
Would be nice to see if the FAQ helped on both.:D
With the last checks "I use 32" and "I use 64" it's harder to clearly determine success/failure ratio....
( I'm guessing more users than me will use both 32bit and 64bit on dual boot?) |

Looks like Norm's OpenGL fix solved the problem. 7.11 is running fine for me on Vista x64 now. Was a bit slow loading up and shutting down the first time, but seems fairly quick now. VRay installed and seems to be working as well. I've installed GamePak, but haven't tested it yet.
I think Caligari might want to release a quickie Vista patch that implements the fix with a simple click. And/or update the installer for new sales so that it doesn't add the OpenGL entry when installing on Vista.
Also of note, I disabled the Vista UAC. (It was annoying me something awful...)

I can get Ts7 to install and work via Norms fix, but I can not install the 7.11 patch and still have it work.
Edit: Also Dual monitors don't seem to work, but that could be a 8800 GTX driver problem. |

Running 7.11 on Vista 32 bit with an 8800 here. There do seem to be some driver issues with the realtime view in the modeler, but tS7.11 does run.
I did not install 7 and then patch it, just installed 7.11 directly. You can log in to the Repeat Downloads area and just get the full install from there rather than go the patch route (https://cart1.caligari.com/ebuy2/enterdownloads.asp) - install the full version, do the fix, and it should work!

Thanks Tom I will try that although the download is extremely slow only 8kbs so this may take a while...LOL.
WOW I can't get over the 8kbs download, I have not seen speeds that slow in almost ten years, you know the days of the blistering fast 28.8 modems....LOL
Once again thanks I am sure that will work. |

Yes that did work; however there seems to be something wrong.
It is now very slow when opening and just feels sluggish in general.
I think I am going to just have to wait for 7.5 to be released. It seems to me I pre-ordered it back in August so hopefully it won’t be too much longer until they release it. Although I am not holding my breath, because I am sure that wont work properly either, at least not until they start pitching version 8.
It’s really sad how slow it runs, I just built a brand new machine for VISTA and this program runs at a snails pace now. When it should be flying like the wind. You would almost think I was running it on an old 486 processor.
Sorry for the somewhat negative rant, but ts has really been disappointing me in the last couple of years. |

The snails pace means something is wrong somewhere - note that I am running tS7.11 under Vista, and it is working fine, smoother and faster on this new machine just as I would expect.
So what you are encountering is not something wrong with tS as such. I would contact customer support about that, via email, and see if they can help.
A lot of issues could affect this - graphics card, driver, and more. Any benchmarks for other 3D software to ensure it is working properly? Did you run the install as an administrator, and run the program itself as an administrator? (Vista has the UAC, User Access Control, which makes things harder to get them installed properly). Was the last version of tS fully uninstalled, and did you clean out the directory afterward (changed files dont get removed by uninstalls, eg configurations etc).
You aren't running under OpenGL by any chance, that is what the fix removes for instance. Is both modeler and player slow, or just one?
Many questions for many possibilities! Don't be disappointed with tS - I have a ton of programs that dont run under Vista - Dreamweaver does something odd, my FTP program doesnt work at all thanks to the help file trying to auto load a tip and the old help files no longer work in Vista so I have to move to a new ftp, Camtasia didnt work without a fix, I cant get Apache or PHP to run at all, the VPN client I use doesnt run at all... the list goes on! Vista is new and there are bound to be issues in using it. My video drivers dont seem to work with the Modeler view for instance (might be Vista, might be the 8800, not sure, but either way its the risk of moving over to the "cutting edge", some things get broke on the way til people have time to fix it!)

Tom thanks so much for the sincere reply. I tried it again and it does seem to be operating better. Especially in player mode, silky smooth even with tons of polys.
I still can't use my dual monitor setup, but I am sure that has more to do with nvidia then Ts.
Now here's to hoping Ts 7.5 supports my new physics card...LOL Well I can always dream. |
