Bit of a style crossover here. Mackintosh mixed with something more Classical.

Getting the hang of the vray problems I think.

I think you are too... but those columns really 'aren't working' for me.
Way too ornate for the Arts and Crafts philosophy.

Nice lighting Chris. Is the room opened from the camera side? What are Vray settings?

Combination of styles Spacekdet. Wanted a more classically built room decorated in a Mackintosh style.

vray setting to medium, with the second bounce a lightmap. Room is closed off, but more windows to the left of the camera view illuminate the entire space.

Always like opposites combined in one scenery, gives room for more thoughts or journeys of phantasy. Will be looking curiously looking forward how this will grow :)

One question out of "town" though, the windows look american style, means you can push upwards the lower part of it. Do they have windows like this in Scotland too ( we in germany don't)?

Didn't Mackintosh cross over into the Art Nouveau period?

Either way, contrast is good. Unless you are going for a period piece you would expect an ecclectic mix of styles that also include modernist pieces...:D

Emma, I doubt it's an American style as we've been building them a lot longer. This is a sash window which uses cords and hidden counterweights to allow the lower part to be raised easily. The upper portion can drop down as well. This is a classic wooden window design in the UK, and is still used in many new houses, although modern pvc windows are also used.

I'm not an art historian Splinters, but I think arts and crafts was really the foundation for art nouveau, so it was not so much a crossover as an evolution. It still looks contemporary today, and I'm lucky enough to see it around town in architechture and interior design.

arts and crafts was really the foundation for art nouveau

Art Nouveau was the earlier Fine Art version more or less Chris with both being decorative arts. Arts and Crafts is about more down to earth stuff and MacIntosh was a genius. We live near a William Morris workshop

American architectural style is really European style of course... unless we're talking teepees and beaver lodges <runs away>

This is really nice Chris. It might need a background outside the windows, but reguardless it's another beautiful piece for your portfolio. :)
