That is great news! Since I preordered early I probably won't see that email. What did it say? "Within 30 days" or "In 30 days"?:) |

Any mention of updates to Vray?
Of course I'm not even sure that was ever planned.
Caligari, any plans to also have Vray updates in the same time frame? |

There have been updates to Vray but only Caligari can say what...;)
I may be biased as I 'think' I am eligible for the free upgrade but I would not hesitate to pay what amounts to £50 for what is far, far more than a point upgrade.
7.5 is like a new program...looks pretty sweet too if i do say so myself. I don't work in Caligari PR but trust me, this is a much better version of tS than I have ever used...:D |

i knew i'd have to pay for this upgrade, still using 6.6, but i'd hoped the price would stay the same as upgrading to 7.1, but seen as they've sent out 'pre-release' pricing just to version 7 owners it looks like it's going to cost a bit more. if all the features work as promised though, it may be worth it. |

Graysho, Tom or Caligari can tell you right away if your eligible.
RichLevy, Early on the update was free, then later it was $50 now $99. Do not wait further if you want to update.
I'm curious if there is a cost for updating VRay also.
I hope they don't send out updates in alphabetical order, Prodigy would beat me!!! Alien is a lucky guy! |

All of the update specials to this point have been for 7.X users, not 6.6... I'll keep waiting, at some point they will include 6.6 users in on some kind of special... I can wait them out :D

Hi all,
Update specials are going to all users of all versions. We do have to stagger the sending of those mails, as there is a limit to how many you can send out all at the same time, so do please be patient! It will take a day or two I am sure to mail everyone, and the mails were only finished very late last night, so we've barely begun the sending process.
Do check your spam and junk mail settings, and ensure all mail from caligari.com is allowed through. If you haven't received a mail by Monday, then just get in touch with us via customer services (custsrv@caligari.com) and let us know and we'll be happy to help (both with checking you are subscribed, and with sending out the offer relevant to you).
Those who are entitled to a free upgrade will get an email with the same content about the features etc, but obviously without an Order Now. If you are not sure of your entitlement to a free upgrade, then once again customer services (custsrv@caligari.com) are the people to contact. If you received an upgrade email with an Order Now button, then that would strongly imply you are NOT on the free upgrade list and you may want to inquire about that if you think you should be on that list.
A web special for new users will also be going out, that's planned for today, so the news will be on the main page.
It's an "in 30 days" rather than "within 30 days" :) That is the expected release date.
One important point is that this is the release information for trueSpace7.5. V-Ray is a separate item, and will have its own release information (in terms of pricing, release date, emails, etc). So do please notie this announcement only covers updates to trueSpace and not to V-Ray - there's no V-Ray functionality covered here, as that is not part of this upgrade. News on that (functionality, pricing, date) will be coming as soon as we can release it, of course!
HTH!
Tom
PS - hope the videos are useful, I had a lot of fun making them! They barely scratch the surface of character animation in 7.5 of course, there's a lot more to it than that in terms of options, settings, functionality etc (for instance, IK Handles can work with Locks, so that using a particular IK Handle always activates a particular set of Locks, allowing you to create Handles to make specific kinds of movement to the skeleton, like moving just the arm and not the main body - that wasn't shown in either the IK Handle or Lock video - and there are other similar items that those videos don't explore or even hint at!).
Anyway, it should be more than enough to give some idea on the fundamentals of the new system, and show just how easy it is to get into character rigging and animation now. |

Tom thanks for Reply.. I have 2 simple questions and i hope can be answered.
1) Truespace7.5 and Vray 1.x (dont know the next version) be released on the same time..
(thats why if you send first 7.5 but we dont have the Vray upgrade we can USE the old Vray1.0 version on to the 7.5??)
2) Are planning a Vray Pre release offer for Vray Users??
And By the Way.. I think is necesary add to that mail the pre order is only for Truespace7.5.. On the older Pre Release offer talk about Vray too.. Vray gonna have DOF and blablalba.. If not the same thing.. dont merge on a single mail :) |

Hi Prodigy,
Last time, both items were being released at once, and people would want to pre-order one while pre-ordering the other - that is, V-Ray was the REASON to upgrade to tS7. We even went as far as having a V-Ray 0.9 released for that reason.
This time around, we haven't combined them as they are having two separate releases. The email is pretty clear that it is the 7.5 upgrade, no mention of V-Ray there nor in the body text about features, and V-Ray is always sold as a separate product, so naturally will have its own separate updates and upgrades.
The release date is unlikely to be the same, though it might be. We're not going to tie the two together though, so that we don't end up delaying one release while waiting for the other to reach completion :)
Full info on compatibility etc will be released along with the other information, so there's nothing I can comment on yet. It's a working-flat-out time, and we'll get info to you as soon as we can!
There will be a pre-release offer on V-Ray, pretty standard for us to do that on all our releases, from software to courses :)
HTH!

Exactly who would be entitled to a free upgrade? I upgraded 6.x --> 7.11 around December 21 2006.
Yet I received an email with Order Now.
Is it only very recent purchasers that get a free upgrade-like within the last month?
How exactly does that work?

Very confused.

Many other software devs would offer far less and call it a full version upgrade (like ver 18->19) and charge far more.
Assigning upgrade numbers of software always seems very arbitrary. Caligari's TS 7.5 is far more than an update/bug fix to 7.11-to our benefit! :) |

Hi all,
ON EMAILS:
This website update has been in the works for a while, but not released due to the work going into the 7.5 pre-release. However, we have now finished updating the customer profile page and added the ability to subscribe and unsubcribe to the specials list at will. Want to sign up to get your 7.5 offer, then unsubscribe once you've purchased, then subscribe again three months later to check for offers on courses etc? Can do!
You can also update your email, address and phone number etc, so that we have all the right records to get in touch with you and to help you out if you need it.
Just sign in with your userid and password here:
http://cart1.caligari.com/forms/memberform.asp
(note, it is your purchase username and password, not your forum username and password :) )
This way you can check if you are set up to receive the specials.
Some answers too to the questions below:
Free upgrades to 7.5 were marketed as special offers that mentioned that in detail - ie "purchase 7.1 now, receive 7.5 at no charge on release!"
If your offer did not specify that in detail, then you will not be able to get the free upgrade.
Do note that the free upgrades were done for those some time ago - that is, those who bought into the next version early got a great deal. So it was older offers that carry the free upgrade, while newer offers have not. The last time was SIGGRAPH 2006, the August offers mentioned here. The first time was those who purchased pre-release versions of 7.0, who were promised "free upgrade to 7.1" (7.1 became 7.5, and a new version, free to all, 7.11, was released in between - so this early wording entitles yout to a 7.5).
If you are uncertain, just get in touch and we'll be happy to check the offer you purchased under and confirm whether it was one that included 7.5 or not - (if you do still have the offer text or email, you can check and see - it was definitely explicitly mentioned in all cases where it applies).
V-Ray question was answered earlier for Prodigy - separate from the 7.5 upgrade, and no information on its release just yet, but will go out as soon as we have the details for it (and will include features, price and expected release date - a pre-release offer will be done as is our standard for all our products).
Thanks for the feedback on everything included in 7.5! There was some consideration given to the point upgrade and whether it should be named 8 or not due to everything that goes in here, but in the end we felt that 7.5 was the right name still, but we do agree, there have been full version updates that offer less than what we bundle in here.
HTH!
Tom
EDIT: PS glad you liked the email, a lot of work went into it so good to know we achieved what we wanted to with it. Are you sure we can't convince you to buy two copies Steinie, go on, you know you want to ;) |

Thanks Tom, Bibianna got me sorted. All is well . Never hurts to ask, but even at, $99 the price is very decent for all those new goodies. |

I've got the email. Moving up from TrueSpace 5 to 7.5, of which I'm getting the boxed version, is going to cost me US$485 which is about €363. That's within my budget but I can't swing for VRay at the same time but will do so down the road. Don't have a credit card so have to mail order my order in but glad I've been putting the money aside each week for the past few weeks now.
Have to say, I was floored by the character rigging videos!! Really looking forward to getting my hands on 7.5 :D !! |
