Thanks on the videos! BTW I am no character animator, my experience is very limited. Also I did not spend the last year in the beta working with these tools, I pretty much just started picking them up last week, yet I was able to work with them very quickly.
I was thinking we could do a Geico and have "So easy even Tom Grimes can do it" as a tag line for those tools :)
I mention that to say that these tools really should be easy and accessible, even if you've never used much in the way of animation or posing tools before.
Of course I am sure that a professional would build a better skeleton than mine, and set better joint limits, and go on to set the stiffness of joints too, etc. So this is by no means the limit of the tools! However I think it is great that those of us who are not animators will be able in there and start using them, and very quickly too I think!
Thanks!

If I do wind up having to pay for my copy (which I really don't think I should) (but also can't complain if I do, because $99 looks like an incredible bargain for so much new stuff), I'll wait until Caligari offers whatever the new version of Vray is in a bundle or something with 7.5. From the sounds of Tom's post, it sounds like that could be a long time away though. :/
Still, it might be cheaper in the end. :D |

No implication on time scale for V-Ray release is intended, so please do just wait and see. I can say that V-Ray work has been ongoing at the same time as the 7.5 development work. If by "long time" you mean 2 months or more, that would be very unlikely for it to be that long. But no guarantees given on the date as the unexpected could always happen. However by my definition of a "long time" it won't be a long time before V-Ray is out.
Buying tS7.5 on pre-release and V-Ray on pre-release once it comes out will most likely be the cheapest option - pre-release is generally the cheapest you will see the product for several years, if you look back over history.
Should there be a combined V-Ray and 7.5 offer on the completion and launch of V-Ray, you can be assured you will not find yourself losing out by paying more if you have upgraded to 7.5 already.
So, for those considering upgrading to 7.5, you can do say safe in the knowledge that adding V-Ray to it when available will be no more expensive (and might even be less expensive) than waiting for the V-Ray release to see if there is a bundle :)

:jumpy: I just got my email and it reads in really big " I mean really big" Bold Letters:
trueSpace7.5 is coming!
Launch expected around 30 days from now, and you will receive the upgrade at no charge!
I like what Roman says at the end.
"Actually we think that we are delivering more than we promised - if you agree show us some love in return and help us spread the word! :) "
Really nice job on the email Tom! |

Thanks for the compliments on the mail - though it was not just me by any means. A lot of the email is very much Roman of course, even down to layout etc - he is very involved in every step with Caligari products since every step is important to him, from design to final announcement email :)
And of course we also had Bibiana and Sheng-che closely involved too, very much a team effort here at the mothership!
Thanks!

One question that seems not to be addressed here Tom is;
What happens to Vray 1.0 owners and 7.11 owners.
For instance, what if a Vray 1.0 owner wants to move to tS7.5, will they get an updated Vray for free or have to pay, will 1.0 even work with 7.5?
Likewise what if you want to stick with 7.11 but buy the next version of Vray, would that be compatible?
Devil's advocate here I am afraid...;) |

Well this is all very good new then.... except that I don't think that I've ever gotten more than 1 e-mail from caligari about anything related to TS7.5. No videos, no pictures, nothing. I have received e-mails with adds for their other offers of courses and such but not much about 7.5 specifically. This is fine I suppose except for my having bought this program back when they made the offer to have the next major upgrade free, and my not having received anything about this via e-mail or otherwise. Was just kind of wondering If I could get that mail. If it was sent before then I apologize if it got "bulked" but it should not have since the other mails made it to me alright.
Here's hoping for the viability of TS 7.5 in my future. |

Hmm, I didn't catch any mention of the new style-based animation that was discussed at length awhile back.
From the first Captain's Blog:
"This is what 7.5 will bring:
1. Simplified UI
...
2. Character Animation
...
First, our new IK will be style based, using empirical databases of motion styles to make manipulation of characters much more natural, while at the same time giving full access to every single key-frame-able parameter a demanding animator will undoubtedly need and consider as his birthright."
Have I just missed it?

I'm not sure I'd have a way to purchase the tS7.5 upgrade from here (Romania) cause Paypal doesn't work for us, but the Caligari site won't even let me try - "timeout expired" from the link I got in the mail and "you are not authorized to view this page" from the "Order now" button in the "Purchase trueSpace7.5 in next 30 days for only $495, get trueSpace6.6 now, trueSpace7.5 on release - save $495!" page. |

@Accu, did have the same problem, without paypal or creditcard paying can appear difficult. What I did, and I suggest same to you, contact Caligari customer support directly. They can give you several alternatives how to pay. I did by wire transfer which works within very few days and doesn't cost too much extra fees if your bank has a bank in the states it works together with. So again, contact Caligari directly they will be able to help.:)
Timeout.../ ..not authorized... can be a problem of your Internet explorer settings. Cookies and Scripting must be activated as long as you work with those Caligari sites. You can swith them off again afterwards. |

i was curious as to what lighworks renderer 7.5 uses, does it use the newest 7.6 from lightworks? Their global illumination in that product i hear is a lot more advanced than it was before.
also, I've never used v-ray ... of course I dont own truespace 7 either ...
To those who have V-ray im also curious, how frequently do you use it compared to the native lightworks renderer, and for what type of projects? |

I'm sure Prodigy will explain his reasonings but here are some examples of his work...
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=2026
Do a search on these forums for VRay and look at the results. Also look for Parva's work too.
The rendering speed increase for the resulting quality is also fantastic. |

Ok,
Here's another important question, the email with the tS7.5 update (not including Vray, as we have learnt) come with this statement.
"Hair is a major new module which will allow you to create a realistic
hairstyle for your character complete with styling brushes - it is so flexible you can even use it to paint grasses or plants onto a landscape."
Originally, hair was only slated for Vray, with no promises for Lightworks....(this was discussed in these forums). Does the statement above mean that that now with just the native lightworks render engine you also get hair???
If not I suggest a change in the advert, otherwise lots of disappointed punters...;) |

I got the email through yesterday night and it states that I will get the upgrade for free. :)
No complaints from me. I don't own VRay but it is something I am looking at purchasing soon.
I can't wait to mess about with the new tools in 7.5. :) |

As far as I know, Ts7.5 uses the LW 7.5 engine. I use HDRI a lot with my older scenes to spruce them up. Occasionally I use Vray and the results are fast and impressive. Unfortunately I use a lot of simbiont shaders which are not Vray compatible and it takes time to get the real best of Vray shaders. Results are impressive but I just don't have the time at the moment.
Worth the effort as the results really do justify the time put in...I just don't have the time right now....:( |

It's not the 7.6 Lightworks in 7.5 - no GI featured with Lightworks. GI is featured with Virtualight though, which is part of 7.5, so tS7.5 does have GI available.
V-Ray is chosen for speed, GI, caustics, realism, quality, and control over the rendering process.
The tS7.5 mail lists those features usable by all owners of tS7.5 - nothing in there requires V-Ray to work. Hair is included for that reason (ie that it is not just dependent on V-Ray).
Note that hair IS fur - see other thread and points discussing this :) Change the softness, length, density, etc, and hair becomes fur. The system does both, you just vary the settings, since there is no specific qualitative difference between hair and fur. In fact you can use the same system to place trees on a landscape too, if you like, not just hairs on a head / chin / etc.
The "not authorised" on clicking the purchase link should now be corrected. Please let me know if you run into any problems with any of the order pages and we'll be happy to help (and fix any errors that may be causing the problem). Numerous payment options are available, just give us a call on the phone and we can take your order that way and help you find the payment method that matches your needs.

Hi Tom,
The details on whether or not you have the upgrade for free are back earlier in the thread (in summary, it is only for specific offers, those being: pre-order of tS7.0; 48 return to pre-order for tS7.0; SIGGRAPH specials in August 2006).
If you have any questions, just contact us and we'll be happy to help!

Hair is at the top of the hierarchy and fur is lower down in the Hair,Densely Packed category. Fur is hair but hair is not fur. Fur is an animal covering, hair is a human possession. Unless you're a spider.
USA domestic pets have hairballs, UK pets have furballs
Wigs lie somewhere on the slippery continuum between hair and Shredded Wheat

I have a question about the new 7.5 vs. 7.1. Has anyone performed a performance test and compared the two. Will the processor requirements be the same or is there more overhead? |

I cant find the diference between hairs and fur..
You can say a hair or you can say hair Prodigy. Single or group. Usually you cannot say a fur, fur is always plural, a group object :)
But as always in English a special case. A fur is also a single object when it has the skin attached and it is worn by a man or woman as clothing. This is a pelt. From Canadanadia in the traps and The Last Mohican. He wore fur as the pelt, very stylish
Much of our English language is from Italy it is a happy import thank you :)
So: hair when it belongs/attaches to a human body by the roots. Fur is hair the same but on an animal never on a human
If you add hairs to the wole body of a human.. LOT hair. is a human or is a wolfman??
Now the question is: is your wolfman a human or an animal. When you decide this you will have your answer :)
Hint: he is only the lupe when the moon is full... all the time the moon is waxing and waning he is in the human loop. You may need to play the percentages

I'm a bit confused about the 'pre-order' thing here. I 'pre-ordered' TS7 on 12.26.05. At the time, they gave me TS6.6 while I waited on TS7 to be released. I got a notice that the upgrade is going to cost $99.
So what is it ? The pre-order for TS7 is void if you got the TS6.6 -while you wait- offer ?
Either way, I'm getting the same error a previous member is talking about - the server is returning a timed-out error. |

Perhaps you received the $99 upgrade offer because there is more than one customer record.
What sort of timeout error are you receiving? I do not see any previous posting about similar error. |

but the Caligari site won't even let me try - "timeout expired" from the link I got in the mail and "you are not authorized to view this page" from the "Order now" button in the "Purchase trueSpace7.5 in next 30 days for only $495, get trueSpace6.6 now, trueSpace7.5 on release - save $495!" page.
This is what I was getting when going to the page earlier today. I went again and it appears to have cleared itself out now.
Please don't misunderstand me about paying the small amount to get the upgrade, I would be glad to pay it. After posting, I considered that the offer may have been to buy TS6.6 and get TS7 when it arrived - therefore making the offer I received exempt from being a pre-order.
I have the original email confirming my purchase and serial # - with what appears to be the order # as the title.
OrderID:
Order Details:
trueSpace6.6 Downloadable
trueSpace7 Upgrade Downloadable
Tax: $0.00
If it will resolve the issue, I will forward this mail to support. |
