I'm trying to understand DX material shaders and going through tutorials. The Artist's Guide says to go open the shader library and add a BackteriaAlpha Shader. The illustration shows a shader library but for the life of me I can't find it. Where is it? I see no library with thinks like "Normal shaders" "Color Shaders" or "Alpha Shaders"

This is a very frustrating program.

Thank you, that is helpful. When I look for the BacteriaAlpha shader, I find the material itself but am not sure how to apply its alpha channel function to the ThinFilm material. Any ideas?

Hi Michael, when you're inside a material in the LE , you should see two icons in the low far left of the LE window , one is for components and one is for shaders .

If you click on these they will open up context sensitive libraries which contain the different shaders you can use to link to the material.

thanks

Paul

I will take a look tonight at the earliest opportunity. I think I found in the manual what icon I need. If the icons aren't there, what would I need to do to make sure they show up? Thanks again.

I checked out the two icons and sure enough, they aren't in my lower left corner. Is there a way to make them appear? I am looking at the ThinFilm material mentioned earlier. Thanks for your help!

Hi sometimes these do not show if a secondary LE window has focus but if you only have one LE then that is not the case and it may be there has been some corruption with the layout.

If they're not showing when you create a new scene then enter the material and only have a single LE window, then you may have to first try the default layout to see if they show up.

If that doesnt work then save any scene you may be working on and try a reset to default.ctx .

Eureka! I was about to send another message about what I tried when I finally realized I should try deleting my default.ctx file. That worked, and now my icons show up. Thanks for your help!
