Hey folks. Here's a walk cycle I am working on. So far I have the legs pretty well straightened out I think. At the end there' s a slight twitch in the chest. I can fix that though.
I should probably start converting these to wmv files. What do you think? If you can't see the avi files please let me know and I will convert them.

Came out great! You guys should consider cataloging these movements when there done. |

Looks like you got the legs down really good. You have a good swing in the hips too. Did you experience any bones popping out of place after keyframing poses? This is a big problem for me. |

Thanks Steinie and 3dfrog! More's comin.
3dfrog:
I did not notice any popping of the bones. But I did notice that after I release the mouse button, there seems to be a residual action, where the bone moves just a tad more after I'm done. I hate when that happens.
This is what I did, per the manual:
1. created a baseline track, and ensured additive blend mode was off (it should be by default but I check anyway!)
2. add another track, and use it for the legs. I ensure additive blend mode is ON
3. To be done tonight: add another track for the arms, and set additive blend mode ON
4. Also to be done in the future: add separate tracks for hip rotation, shoulder rotation, foot movement: ankle adjustments, and another track for 'ticks', which add personality to the character's walk
The reference I used was Digital Character Animation vol. 2 by George Maestri.
Another one I need to start using is The Human Figure in Motion by Muybridge. :)
Once this is done I'll post it for folks to observe and hopefully learn from!
I wonder where the rest of the animators are?
Froo
EDIT: one other thing I forgot to mention: since the first and last frames, 0 and 32, are identical, I created the animation using frames 0 - 31, for looping purposes. |

This does look great!
Nice work you guys are doing with these anim's, they just need music and sound effects in them now!:D

Here is the full walk cycle. I tried converting this to a wmv file for easier access but it looked cludgy when I did that, so I am keeping it as an avi file. This looks much smoother. It's rendered straight from the workspace.
let me know what you think.
Oh, 3dfrog: Yeah, I got that stupid bone popping issue. Seems it happens when I finish the animation, make a movie, then go back for editing. What I tried doing was, selecting the offending bone and just barely moving it. That seemed to fix the problem, but only sometimes. At first I had to just start over with the arms from a previous version.
BTW... the walkfullb.rar has crazybob semitransparent; I fixed that to make him solid in walkfullc.rar (Thanks for the tip 3dfrog!)

Looks good frootee. The angle of the hands looks like it may be uncomfortable for him to hold while he walks. But this is a believable walk cycle. Good work. |

Thanks 3dfrog.. Um, he has arthritis. Yeah, that's it!
Seriously though, I have always had trouble with rotating the hands. I can never seem to get them to easily rotate without having to move and spin the mouse around a few times; while I am doing this, the arm goes to some strange position, sometimes slapping crazybob in the face. That' s the most aggravating part. So, on to learning rigs!
The left hip seems to pop a little.

if you select the joint above the hand and use the rotate handles on the widget you will get an easy rotation. |

Ah I see. I was trying to use the IK handle.
This is one of those it's-so-obvious-I-can't-even-see-it kind of things.
Thanks!

In any case to me this is a pretty good looking walkcycle. I am glad to see frootee's progress and hope other guys will follow and soon we will see animated stories. |
