Although I've owned Truespace for awhile (5.2, 6.6), I haven't really started working with it in ernest until recently - the amount of icons, and where they were when I needed them put me off for a long time. However, I always believed that Truespace was the one program that included everything I needed for 3D, and the more I work with it, the more I believe that thats entirely true. The modeling tools in 6.6, for example, are outstanding. I'm (not so) patiently awaiting my pre-order 7.5, and have 1 major 'issue'. The one thing that bugs me the most ....the Undo. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems that some things I can undo, and some I can't (bevels come to mind). I'm working with 6.6, can anyone tell me if this 'undo' situation has changed in 7 or 7.5?

Thank You,

rf

I found undo to be completely hit and miss in 6.6 adn 7.1 - it sometimes worked, othertime s not. I hope this is fixed..

There are some operations that simply cannot be undone because they are 'destructive'. Extracting the final mesh from an SDS is one that springs to mind: at the point the new mesh is extracted the old object is deleted and with it goes the undo history it held.

Have you tried right clicking the undo icon and setting the undo parameters differently at all?

Bobbins,

That's another thing - poly reduction creates another 'version' why can't sds?

And yes, I've tried setting the options - maybe it's just that I haven't found the 'tweak' I'm looking for, but it would sure be nice to have a normal undo function. Even Vue (d'esprit) that works with (reportedly) millions of polys has a normal 'undo' as does every other 3D app that I know of - it's just kind of funny and annoying.

Thanks for the reply,

rf

My undo issues were only related to moving, scaling and texturing... simple stuff just didnt work right - might have been bridge related, I'll try it all in 7.5 sooon!:o

As far as SDS goes, I've always found it useful to make a copy before extracting the SDS final product, that way I can go "back" and still have my "un-do's" available if I end up with something that I didn't want!

For tS7, bear in mind that the Undo system in the Model side is the old tS6.6 Undo system. The new Undo and History Stack only apply on the Workspace side of things.

The Undo system in tS6.6 and earlier will only Undo on the currently selected object. Some Undo history is collapsed at some points, so if you leave a mode (like Point Editing) you may lose the ability to Undo as soon as the mode is exited.

This is much more effective in tS7 on the Workspace side, where the Undo is much more "what you would expect". There are still one or two actions which you can't Undo (though there are so few of those I forget what they are), but the system is MUCH better than it was in tS6. You can undo skeleton moves, creating your skeleton, point editing, texturing, etc, all with ease.

HTH!

Thanks for the reply, Tom. With that info I can honestly say 7.5 will be the perfect 3D app. Can't wait to use it.

Interesting discussion.

At university we must learn to use Maya, an app which I enjoy but I cannot use it as well as TS. Maya has an interesting system because wheneve you do something such as a Bevel, or adding a material or extrude, that action is saved in a long line of tabs on the right hand side of the screen, so at some point down the line of editing your model, you can go back to that extrusion and change it, how long it lasts I do not know, my models have been fairly limited.

A good tip though, if you are going to do something destructive such as Beveling, extruding or Subtracting etc, always make a copy of the model before hand, I always do, its good because I end up with a long line of models before I applied a certain thing, therefor I am creating a similar line of history that Maya does, it just takes 1 extra click!

I am having trouble learning how to use layering. I think I have been trying to figure out the layers because of situations where the undo will not work.
