Looking back I realise I've always had this problem under Vray and GI, tried to ignore it but now I need to fix it
I've tried every setting with careful one-change, one test strip protocols. All the quality settings from 'Very Low' to 'Are You Sure? It Could Take Forever. Well Ok Then It's Your Funeral' settings. I've added many more samples and so on, changed textures, changed lights in case some feature of some textures or lighting are causing clashing or something I've been most careful to check that this problem isn't just low sample settings
Does this look familiar to anyone please and is there some fix that is not of the "Try higher quality settings?" variety?

On a lighter note I see that Roman talks nearby about very speedy rendering under 7.5 using the GPU. I've got two so that might be handy. Yes please and can I have it today btw :) And will it fix the noisiness <runs away>
Thanks in advance for any help offered!
Peter
Thanks again for the folding chairs model Vizu... it's a dispersal hut on an airfield. Eventually :)

While there are many new features in V-Ray 1.5, we have tried to keep the compatibility with older V-Ray versions where this is possible. Nevertheless, a few changes to the basic operation of the V-Ray rendering engine were required. The most important of these are outlined below. Note that there may be other changes not mentioned here.
Important changes
Adaptive rQMC image sampler
In previous V-Ray versions, increasing the Max subdivs parameter could lead to increased noise in the renderings when using direct GI evaluation, blurry reflections, area lights etc.
I feel an Aaaaggghhh! coming on :)
Seeing the red-bit quote- I am using area lights in that corner and I have tried making that area light different sizes, didn't help but... I had a bad feeling about area lights there outside the window - but what else could I use please if area lights are causing the noise? I have an inflight for the sunny spot but still need fill lights - in my blundering-around novice state

Ok.. the problem is the default setting of the area light is..
Min. Subdivisions 0.3
Here is an example..
5772
So look whats happend if you change to a lower value.. like 0.01
Here is the results..
5773
Take in mind this renders are not using Antialiasing, With adaptive you dont get a better result, change to x2 or x3 and you can get a preaty non noice render..
Cheers!! |

That is so kind of you Prodigy thanks!
I adjusted Min. Subdivisions but- I only made the number larger... doh!
I would never find this answer thanks mate I owe you a cold beer. Or grappa :)
I love your work btw Prodigy and I try to make all things Prodigy-style. Elegant :)
Tomorrow I try the new setting and report back - thanks again!

Yes that works Prodigy, you can also change the area samples for the area light in the Link Editor for those of you that want to, the default setting is 17 which isn't very much and causes artifacts, increasing these numbers will add to the render time so it can be a balancing act between speed and quality, but you may have a little more control over using the link editor.

Cool!!
By the way.. i dont drink Grappa..hehehe.. in some countrys like Italy, the grappa its a finest drink.. in Uruguay the grappa is very "common", you only find few drunks on a crashed bar drinking grappa.. hehehe.. Grappa with lemmon.. (Sale una Grapa con limón)
So i prefer a Martini bianco, or a Malibú sunrice!!

I like you find it a bit complicated but I have picked up a few things along the way, you have to make sure you have set the LE to show camera's and lights, by default I believe they are turned off, click anywhere in the LE, then click on the Prfeferences icon (hammer and wrench icon) at the top of the stack and clcik on lights and they panel should show up for you. |

Ya, I know, maybe someone can explain it to you, I did play around with those things in the past but can't remember what I learned at the moment.
I drink many things, Palinka is one of my favorites as well as Guinness and also Unicum which is a Hungarin speciality. Yum. Hard to get here in Canada.

Att is short for attenuation. It's how quickly the light falls off.
I generally set constant and linear falloff to zero. Preferring to use only quadratic falloff at a very low setting like .001. ;)
Of course maybe I'm doing it wrong too. LOL

Adaptive QMC has nothing to do with tS vrays v1.5 (like I expected). tS v1.5 isn't vray 3ds or standalone.
The trueSpace vray based upon the vray 1.46 or 1.48 core. |

Much much better thanks Prodigy and sorry for thinking you are in Italy it may be the moustache like Salvador Dali the er, Catalan. For people who think he was Spanish. He was a genius too and his book 'Diary Of A Genius' is very good. In UK we do not know much about Uruguay but you have a good national soccer team I know that - and some excellent 3D artist now I see :)
Great info thanks all!
...a live party in truePlace on Wednesday May 9th at 8pm Eastern time!
I thought it was today while we have the holiday :) :(
When we have TS7.5 I think we will enter the world of the LE. We must be brave then :)
Peter
PS this is serendipitous Prodigy, I wanted to check that Dali was indeed from Catalonia (like Heaven) so I googled those words and look here is a render in Vray (almost), everything links :)
