Maybe it's the bug fixes slowing us down... those darn bug fixes! :p LOL

Hopefully they'll figure out what's up though...

Hey guys,

Just wanted to pop up and say that we're certainly looking at this. It's harder than you might think to be able to do a direct comparison between the two because lots of things changed with the V-Ray architecture itself and that necessitated a lot of changes to our implementation.

We'll continue to track down any slowdown however, and give you more information (or requests for sample scenes) as we find it.

PS - thanks for spotting the panel swaps, they'll be fixed right away.

Just out of interest I did quick test of render speeds between 1.0 and 1.5 with different AA settings ...

as you can see, I'm getting 1.5 rendering, on average, more than 3 times slower !! than 1.0

(also interstingly adaptive AA is quicker than no AA in 1.0 :)

The scene was just some cubes with a few painted using glossy reflections.

My sytem is

Athlon 64 3700+ @ 2.2GHz,

1Gb RAM,

Asus GForce 6800 GT 256Mb, (edit: with 93.71 forceware drivers)

MSI K8N Diamond

WinXP SP2 32bit

Hi,

Searching why Vray 1.5 is more slower than the 1.0 i found this particular thing..

5936

Using the same template "MEDIUM" you can see in blue these settings are not equal.. like upside down...
I think WOW, maybe this are the problem.. i change but nop.. its ok..

The quesiton is.. this is a 1.0 bug? or a 1.5?

Dont know if Bug or what ever you want to call, but one of these settings are wrong.. :D

I watched a sample freebie VRay tutorial (3D Max based, mind you) over at VisMasters (architectural visualization), and based on the VRay settings in Max, it looks like the labels for tS 7.5 VRay Light Map 'Sample Size' and 'Light Samples' are switched as well. Possible?

http://3dats.vismasters.com/static/training/vray/

Also, found it a bit odd that they recommended Direct/QMC rendering for 1st bounce (versus 2nd bounce) for external (out-door settings) renders, and I don't believe VRay for tS 7.5 provides that as an option under Primary GI (unless my interpretation of 'Primary GI' equals '1st bounce' is incorrect). Thoughts?

No rj0 is right. QMC (Quasi Monte Carlo) is "Direct", means that there is no precalculation in QMC, but done on-the fly during rendering.
The "Direct" phrase is also used in the manual from Chaos/Vray.

Also right that QMC isn't possible as first bounce (primary engine) in tS. This is a big problem espacially for those who prefer quality/detail more as speed.

The text switch between Sample Size and Light Samples is fixed in updated vray 1.5 as far as I know.
