I did this in ts 6.6; found it while looking for the lightarray tsx that Momaw needed.
It did not get finished because we were in the process of moving at the time I believe, but I'll resume work on it now.
BTW any way to port old 6.6 scenes into 7.51? That would be nice, and sensible actually.
Thanks and as always, comments welcome!

Very cool video clip.
I really like the lighting on this model, the columns and raptor guard statues are really awesome.
As far as loading this scene into TS7.51 you can go to modelside and use the dropdown file menu there to load TS6.6 scenes just fine. The problem will be with the textures though on Workspace side usually, if you plan to render in Vray anyway or use the scene in an actual truePlay setting online or offline. Lighting will have to be set up again also.
Workspace doesn't like TS66 textures in my experience, makes them all look like bad toon shaders, but you can drag a DX9 texture onto any objects and then modify it in the LE of course, then it will look fine live and in FPN with truePlay.
Very neat scene to start from if you want to enter that new truePlay "Immersive Spaces Competition" here.... (blatant hint and plug:D )
Looks like this one would be fun.:)

thanks 3dv. Let's see... I have not saved files as trueplay scenes yet. Any special instructions for saving as trueplay files?
Couple notes on this: I added a character with a sword, on his back (dead). The scene was inspired by a song from Tomas Otten, entitled "Total Confusion". All instrumental, it's about 3 minutes or so. I'll see if I can add a clip of the song to 'set the mood'.
The intended point of view is from an observer seeing into the past. They wonder what happened? Turns out the swordsman was trying to defeat the 'gargoyles', who are of course the statues.
The gargoyles are guarding.... something.

Wow. There's a deep creative storyteller side of you emerging here which you've been hiding from us here I see.... cool... very cool.:D
On the special instructions for truePlay use it's good to go with trueBlue's recent suggestion on that, place an "entry point" camera (the icon shaped like a human torso) at the spot in 3d space where you want Avatars to appear (and be looking / aimed) when they enter the scene.
On the music file, if you are creating a truePlay version of this it might be way nice to add that music file to a proximity sensor somewhere in your scene, just like the overhead octagon uses music and proximity in the truePlaces "Lab" place.
Way cool... more script ideas are popping to mind on this one too.;)
Keep us all updated on this one, it has nice potentials.

Thanks 3dv. I have a folder overpacked with story and animation notes.
I have others I need to type up.
Thanks also for the tips on trueplay and the loading ts6.6 scenes and texture notes!

Off to a great start there Froo! Can't wait to walk around in there. :)
As for saving a truePlay file, I would go with the way trueBlue suggested in another thread. TruePlay can open regular .rsscn files but making a recording file (.rcd) makes the file size quite a bit smaller. I did that with all my truePlay scenes. |

cool thanks Dele! This scene is quite poly heavy right now.
Heck, now I am getting fired up about trueplay and realtime interactive scenes!
Aright, who slipped that addictive thing in there? I'm hooked....

Wow.... I'm glad Délé mentioned that "rcd" format, I forgot all about that one again! You only need to record a second with it and it does save filesize over RsScn files for sure. Too bad I had already saved a bunch of CD's worth of these scenes before trueBlue mentioned it though! Hahahaha... oh well, next time for sure!:)
There is one other thing which you may want to add to a given truePlay scene, I'm going to start adding them to a few scenes myself, and that's a link to Caligari's truePlaces. That way once someone has been introduced to truePlay and what it enabled them to experience within your scene, they will also be able to use that link as well to be introduced to the trueSpace Community and Caligari.

It IS addictive, isn't it!:D
So here you are, a good trueSpace Modeler, a good trueSpace Scriptor, a good Storyteller... and soon to be an outstanding truePlay Scene Creator?
Oh man... what are we in for now?!?:p
Welcome to the brave new world of immersive scenes my friend, you'll never look back again.;)
Regarding high polycounts, if your total scene weight including textures falls under 6 meg and better yet closer to 5 it will be "truePlaces" size, and as such suitable for use online in multi-user bandwidth situations. On the other hand, if you intend to use the scene via truePlay only for single-person offline use on a hard drive or CD, the only filesize restriction is to have the scene work well within the particular computer hosting truePlay. If that computer is fast enough you could build 50 meg scenes for offline use with truePlay if you wanted to, but a scene that size would be more of a "world."
If you want a scene that big my recommendation would be to split it up into 5 meg linked scenes if at all possible, that way when Caligari rolls out the new private rentable shared spaces for us all you'd be ready with a whole world of pre-linked "FrooPlaces.":D

As Little Richard said, "Ow! LOOK OUT!" :D
I'll have to review my trusty truespace manual for using the record feature, to create a recorded file. I think it's poly heavy because I quad divided the top and bottom of the columns to get them smoothed. (Been awhile!)
So we can load these files into trueplaces?
I have a suggestion 3dv. If you (or someone else) already knows how to create a Rcd file, and put it into trueplaces, could you write a step by step tutorial for a simple scene? I mean, from loading the scene into truespace, converting it to a Rcd file, and the process of loading it into trueplaces?
I've seen blender tutorials like this; I think some people (myself included) need a step by step starter tutorial to 'get over the hump' so to speak.
I've been thinking about a step by step tutorial for scripting and the LE (extremely basic), for starting the LE, adding a script object, adding attributes, and explaining variables like param.blabla, since it looked like Greek to me. That way people interested could join in on a scriptor meeting at some point in the near future and know what the heck was going on.

WHOAH there... the cart's on top of the horse here it seems.
When I said "truePlaces size" I was referring just to the size which truePlaces currently uses for scenes, but actually putting a scene in truePlaces is Caligari's decision alone, we can't just "load these files into truePlaces" at all.
Caligari has said they will be making new private rentable shared spaces available to us soon on their Server, so the "FrooPlaces" I was referring to can happen soon hopefully, but they aren't available yet without actually renting the same commercial software Caligari uses to host their "truePlaces," and that's called "trueServe." Great software for sure, but it's not in a practical lease range for non-commercial project applications.
You can use these scenes now with truePlay offline though, but for online use you'll have to wait for the rollout of these new rentable shared space options which Roman referred to in his Captains Blog recently, or get trueServe, there's no other online option aside from those two.
Sorry if my message was confusing about that, but that's the way it is.

YES.... a detailed tutorial specifically for creating immersive and interactive truePlay scenes is an outstanding idea, there's a few of us already asking for that in a roundtable thread here and the more the better.
YES ALSO.... we definitely do need exactly the kind of step-by-step tutorial for scripting and the LE you're talking about too... and a Scriptors meeting every week which is open to all would be a GREAT idea I think.

Cool!
I'm also dying to see what this project here ends up like. I've got all kinds of thoughts about this scene after seeing that little video clip of yours, it makes me wish I made similar clips of some of my own older scenes so I'd remember their potential as well. Pretty hard to do when you have so many years worth of models scattered all over the place!
Having Scriptors meetings would be good for lots of us I think, I just hope lots of people here realize how much it could help them with their trueSpace projects to attend. I sure plan to, I can write basic code and have written a few programs myself for WinXP, but I can't even figure out the simplest things in the LE without a "BOOT CAMP" of "BASIC TRAINING!"
Hmmmm, catchy term? Anyhow, I'll be at them.
