I tried to use the displacement brush.

In then manual (page 70) you can read that it is necessary to use the middle mouse button to reverse the direction of the brush.

My middle mouse button is programmed for double click.

What is the standard for MMB, or how can I change this behaviour in TS?

Is there a keystroke shortcut? (I know that it is possible to change the magnitude slider)

You need to set your MMB back to it's default setting.

This is a much more serious issue for laptop users who don't have a MMB... maybe alt-LMB could be substituted?

The same issue than in UV Editor, where you need the MMB to navigate :)

As i found out, setting it back to factory default settings doesn't work for some mouse software. Mine resets the MMB to Universal Scroll whith factory default then. And this doesn't work ...

Have a look if you can setup the MMB to Middle mouse button (Mittlere Taste) somewhere in your mouse software :)

I found that RMB hold and move back and forward changes the amount

of the magnitude so you can make valleys or hills :)

If you have any specific software for driving and configuring the mouse, disable it. I have a dell at work and it uses dell's own software for the mouse and it has navigate buttons on the side but they don't work until you shut them down - you can then use them to move back and forward in the link editor which is cool. The wheel never worked either...

I'd suggest that first - it will probably work.

TS relies at the driver. Which means the mosue software and its current settings. And doesn't detect it by itself.

This means that you need to setup the mouse wheel to be mouse wheel in the software. And middle mouse button to be middle mouse button. Wrong configured buttons causes not working functionality in TS. And when you setup the buttons for your own needs they are wrong configured then. This can be done with setting the mouse software back to factory default.

But some mouse software is even then wrong configured. Happened to me. With factory default my middle mouse button is universal scroll instead middle mousebutton. And so it refused to work. I had to set it to middle mousebutton :)

For shutting down the mouse software: this means that Windows applies a standard mouse driver. And this is somehow factory default. But as you have noticed it can happen that for example the mouse wheel is not detected then. Or even the middle mouse button is missing because there is no compatible Windows driver for your mouse. In the end, no ned to shut down the software. Just configure it correct ;)

I agree. I have a Logitech wireless mouse. the track wheel zooms just fine because I configured it for scrolling.

And middle mouse button to be middle mouse button.

That may be right, but my mousedriver has no entry for middle mouse button!

(I have 38 entries and I am able to set keys on every button)

And usually I use the middle button as doubleclick. AND I DON'T WANT TO CHANGE THIS.

A better solution for everybody would be that the user could change the configuration in the used software.

But my suggestion is:

A combination of left mouse button and a key like SHIFT; ALT, CTRL and

alternative the arrow keys.

Edit: I've got it! It is called "AutoBildlauf" and I could change it specially fpr TrueSpace :)

Yeah, some software will work fine but for other mice try killing your specific software and use the windows default and see how it works. If it doesn't, start it up again.
