I've noticed references to "Rosetta" here on the Forum, and in the Workspace file extensions. I would like a little more background information on it if possible - such as - What is Rosetta and how did the name come about? I also notice that on the WS side, there is no mention of .cob - the new 'rs' (for Rosetta?) preceding, as in 'rsobj', 'rsScn' etc. There seems to be no support for .cob in WS at the moment, but I'm guessing that eventually there will still be import for .cob, what about export?
Thank You,

Hi rrf.
Rosetta was the code name for truespace 7 during development. I believe the codename was in reference to the Rosetta stone, which contains the same text in 3 scripts: 2 Egyptian forms, and 1 Greek. Cool stuff.
For more info on the Real Rosetta stone, go here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_Stone
Perhaps Roman or another more knowledgable than me can explain the reason why the codename Rosetta was chosen.
HTH!

So far as I understand Rosetta the name of the new architecture. I would guess that Roman probably named it Rosetta because it's a whole new architecture that opens many new doors of possibility. Similar to the Rosetta stone which was used to finally break the code of Egyptian hieroglyphs allowing us to read all that the ancient Egyptians had written. I guess only Roman knows for sure why he decided to name it Rosetta though.
As for the .rs file type, I believe this is the new standard. Instead of .cob or .scn there will from now on be .rsobj and .rsscn. So the new file types will take over and replace the old file types much like the workspace will completely replace the model view eventually. |

Thanks for your replies - I figured that 'Rosetta' had it's roots in the stone, and as such is the 'syllabus' of the new architecture. I'm also guessing (correctly, it seems) that .cob etc. will be replaced with the .rs*** - also guessing there will have to be at least import for the old extensions. I see these changes as exciting times for TS, can't wait to see whats next:) Also, I'd like to Thank Roman for the new announcement in the Captain's Blog about 7.51!

The several authors of the inscriptions on the Rosetta stone worked with a common text
In my online world away from here teamwork is much more common than I see in the world of the 3D artist. Nothing beats working in a team, Roman seems to see this and points the way
