I am learning the glossy reflection shader.

Here is it in material editor. A Vray render window is below it. Big black ball is painted with the shader in the material preview. Little ball and floor is Caligari phong, and phong.

Here is scene if someone want.

Can this be a bug OR are the varables set wrong???

I think you have a bug... I set mine exactly like your's, and I get a reflection. Do you have any lights in your scene?

The problem isn't in your material settings. It's in your render settings. You need to check 'Raytrace'. Then your reflections will work.

By the way. If you're going to render this with GI, you'll also need to uncheck 'env. lighting only'. You're not getting shadows because you're using lights from the modeller side. If I throw in the default lighting setup from the workspace, you can get transparent and soft shadows too. :)

Man! (or woman :) )

Is that what it was.. :) !

I am so used to 'raytrace' always being on, I didn't notice it was off!

Anyway thank you so much for pointing that out Heidi!

Edit: And thanks for the other info as well!

Just found that sometimes when turning on the bridge, and synchronizing from workspace then switching from workspace to model and back turns off 'Raytrace'. This is what happened here.

Now I find that changing background color 6552 in workspace does not change background color in workspace Vray render.

Here is workspace vray render with blue background color set in model and grey background set in workspace.

For some things you will want to make the change in model side. There are some parts of the bridge that are still only one way. Currently render settings is one of those. :(

Glad I could help :)

BTW, thats the workspace background, not the render background. Also, the grey you're seeing reflected is probably the color of grey (default) that's set for your vRay environment.

The setting for the vRay environment color is on the default vRay render panel. The setting for rendered background (other than hydr) is here:
