There's just the one version, which requires Win XP or XP Pro to run under current specifications.
To run trueSpace 7.5 on Vista, which has been successful in some cases, you just have to install it on that platform. Search the forum to find posts about any issues which might require any workarounds. |

Main thing is to right click on the installer and select "run as adminstrator" when you run the installer.
There are a couple of UI glitches with TS and Vista, but nothing serious and it works fine. The problems may well be Microsoft's fault as well, so hopefully an MS patch will fix that.

Hi all,
There's no need for a "Vista version" - the one version of tS7.5 runs on all suitable Windows versions :)
It runs just fine on Vista - we have many users (myself included) running it there, on Vista 32 and 64 bit, and in all flavors (Home, Ultimate, etc).
So you can upgrade your Windows and then install with confidence that it will work. There were some issues with tS7.11 on Vista, just some special things required during install, though those no longer apply to tS7.5. Simply run the install as an admin (right click and use "Run As Administrator" on the exe), and that is all you need to do.
So enjoy, as the version you have downloaded already is the "Vista version" (as well as the XP version!) :)

EDIT - note that I don't think the text file fix is required in tS7.5? I could be wrong though, but I think that was fixed in the install itself. It would be the one thing to check if you find any problems, though. |

upgrade to vista
don if you're new to Vista watch out for the known Vista problem (that affects some machines) that when you try to copy your files to back them up, Vista will take forever to copy or move them... this doesn't affect some people's installs but if it does it's a show-stopper. Install and run Vista in dual-boot mode if you can, you can do this if XP is already installed

It only takes forever if you dont take "ownership" of the files before hand. You can right click on a whole drive, go to the security tab, hit advanced, hit the ownership tab and change the ownership of the drive (including all the files on it), to your new user account.
If you dont do this first, when you copy files, each one is being checked individually by the NTFS file system. Thats why it will be slow. Just take ownership of all your old files, and it runs just as fast as XP, also you wont get a lot of wierd prompts when trying to save files (permissions). By taking ownership, you give yourself full permissions.

Thanks everyone. Does TS 7.5 run good on the new Direct X 10(DX10)Graphic cards this is really the only reason I want to upgrade to vista at this time. The new DarkBasic Pro X10 is going to use the new hardware on vista, not sure if PhotoShop is on vista yet. I guess I will wait until all three programs are on the vista platform |

Workspace is based on DX9 technology so I doubt it would take advantage of DX10 just yet...:) |

It runs fine on the DX10 cards - however there is no benefit from DX10 for tS7.5, as it is DX9 based. The DX10 cards are very fast of course, so you get the benefit of that enormous speed and power, but the DirectX10 itself doesn't add anything to tS7.5.
It will be a while before DX10 becomes commonplace - so far the only things I have that use DX10 are demos from NVIDIA :) Lost Planet the game is the first item I have heard of which will take advantage of DX10, but I don't think the difference there is huge (it has two versions available for the PC, a DX9 and a DX10).
Crysis of course is the first big DX10 item on the horizon, or certainly the one that is most visible and ensuring it attracts the most attenion :) And it does indeed look pretty amazing.
At the moment though, DX10 isn't really offering any benefits to anyone, except for the future proofing of being ready for future applications. Given the number of non-DX10 PCs out there, it will be several years before DX10 is the "standard" I think, so only go for it now if you are keen to be one of the first ones there and get the first few apps that trickle in and use it :)
HTH!
