"Pimp My Scene"
(Turning private scenes into public playgrounds.)
Concept:
"Pimp My Scene" is a new initiative I would like to kick off today here at the forum to bring us all closer together for a bit of very productive fun.
For those of you who may not be familiar with the "Pimp My..." allusion above, there is an extremely popular television show based in California called "Pimp my Ride" where a team of professional automotive detailers, body work specialists, mechanics, air brush paint artists, and a host of other talented people select one individual from a list of applicants who would like their (beat up and sometimes non-functional) vehicle (ie: "ride") "pimped" (ie: completely transformed into a wild, great looking, and genuinely fun "new" vehicle by this team of (equally wild!) professionals.
The concept is simple. A "Pimp This!" thread is started here where anyone may take a scene which they have created (old or new) and place reference images of it (not the actual models or scene files) in that thread along with a request for a team of volunteers here at the "Pimp My Scene" thread to work together in completely tranforming that scene into "a wild, great looking, and genuinely fun new" scene FOR EVERYONE with one special requirement... that the scene be navigable and enjoyable in First Person Navigation (FPN) using truePlay1.3 or trueSpace7.51 when "finished" by the team who is on it.
These volunteers will be given the artistic licence to "go wild" on that scene if they like in any way they see fit, with the final outcome of that scene being a complete surprise to the recipient of it on the day the team presents it in this thread for use in truePlay1.3 by everyone and anyone.
We are talking "public domain only" scenes here, so if you offer it up in a post for consideration that scene (and everything in it) (If Selected by a "Pimp My Scene" Team) will then belong to everybody from that moment forward, so if there are any elements of that scene you do not want to forfeit your Copyright on, or which may be Copyright by someone else, DO NOT offer that scene for consideration without first removing any existing Copyrighted elements in that scene.
These Selected Scenes in the end may well look nothing like they once did, but will be a lot of fun to share and experience via truePlay (whether online, on your local drives or on CD), and this could really end up being a lot of fun to contribute to in many ways for all of us together.
Phase 1:
Vote. If you think this would be a blast for us all here in the Caligari Community to team up in and go wild with, indicate that by voting "Yes."
If you do vote "yes," please consider helping the initiative in any way you can and whenever you can, because together we can make this a blast!
Phase 2:
Volunteers. All manner of skills will be a valuable asset to these "Pimp My Scene" mini-projects, so everyone's offers of assistance at any level in this initiative will be appreciated and very likely called upon as we proceed.
In order to keep all the related work aspects from becoming a burden on any one volunteer, however, it would be best for no single work aspect of any of the team's Selected Scenes to be worked on alone at any time in any one specific regard, ie: 2 volunteers model, 2 volunteers texture, 3 volunteers introduce scripted interactivity, etcetera.
As for "management" there is none! Want to manage a team? Great! Go ahead start one. Production and fun alone will determine the best managers in this assuming the need for any at all even arises.
Private Team Meetings of some kind though would be a good idea in shared space, perhaps, at least to meet and have a few laughs but certainly inter-team talent pools could be formed there.
Teams may also take as much time as they like on any scene they select, and as a result may take on numerous "Pimp My Scene" mini-projects simultaneously, working on whichever and whatever they choose and volunteer to work on at any given time. The idea is to have fun and produce some interactive scenes out of all this that we will all truly enjoy in truePlay.
All those offering you scenes in the "Pimp This!" thread will be expecting to see "something finished" once in a while though, so maybe a monthly finished "Pimp My Scene" project would be a good idea. It's all up to the volunteers.
Phase 3:
Talk about all of it here and in PM, form a team with someone you'd like to work with here and when you all think you have enough teams to start, just start a new "Pimp This!" thread in the forum and have a blast!!!:D
Sound like fun to you?

Thanks Rjeff,
Yeah I think it would be fun too!:D
Thanks to you other guys for your votes too, the more the merrier! The Poll here will be running for 10 days from the time it was made, so lots of folks who don't pop in here every day will have a chance to put in their choice too.:)
Could be a blast, so hopefully it will fly!
