Ok I decided to make a bowling alley scene to experiment with trueSpace's physics. I've modeled my pin and now I'm trying to to create a uv map for it.

I did the follow to set up the uv map: I switched to the front view and rectangle selected the faces then I applied a planar uv mapping, then I switched to the back view selected the faces and applied a planar uv mapping to them as well, finally I select the bottom face and gave it a planar uv projection.

As you can see in the picture the front and back selections of the bowling pin are squashed a bit in the uv editor.

I exported the map out to paint my texture and of course when I applied the finished texture to the object It was streched.

What I'm I doing wrong here. How come the front and back selections of the bowling pin are showing up squashed in the UV editor?

do you have Cubic UV projection on this instead of one of the other ones? try using the different projections, then the unwrap to see if it changes.

It's because the planar projection scaled to your selections dimentions instead of staying square.

Unfortunately there is no way to numerically scale the projection or prevent the scaling so you'll just have to eyeball it either using the projection widget during projection or scaling the projections themselves in the UV editor.

Something else you should consider is that the bottom of the pin isn't going to be seen much so it would make sense to give it less UV space and the pins more.

Also if you could post a screen grab of the texture and the stretching we may be able to give you more specific advise.

Kena and Jack thanks for the help. I was using the default postion and scale of the uv cage. I had to scale the cage up and reposition it for my front and back selectons. Actually I did this in trueSpace 6.6 after reading your post Jack and seeing there was no way to numerically control the uv cage. I wish the uv cage's properties could be edited numerically via the object panel in 7.51 Below is a picture of the new uv map.

Much better! And you should be able to do the same in model side of 7.51. ;)

But I agree it'd be nice to adjust the Workspace UV projection widget numerically.
