I've been trying to get the virtualight renderer working in 7.51 and I'm having no luck. Basically it just refuses to render. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. Lightworks works fine.

Also when using the virtualight texture the mat-preview disappears when I have the virtualight renderer selected. Oddly, it returns when I choose lightworks. I'm not sure whether these problems are related. Is anyone else having these issues, or do I have a bad install or something?

I should point out I'm not making a noob error by trying to render it from workspace. I've also got virtualight installed separately for use with 6.6, if that makes any difference. I also haven't installed over the top of 7.5, it's a clean install.

Couple of things from memory to check:

Do you have any localisation settings that use a comma (,) instead of a full stop (.) for decimal points within windows, such as showing two-and-a-half as 2,5? I recall Virtualight is picky about such things and expects a full stop (.).

What path name are you using for your trueSpace install directory? If the directory name has a full stop (.) in it like C:\tS7.5\ then Virtualight can choke on the full stop.

I recall that VirtuaLight uses some system variables for the paths too, so it is possible that the tS6.6 VirtuaLight install may be conflicting with the tS7 integration. As a check it might be worth uninistalling the tS6.6 Virtualight, checking the system.ini file for VirtuaLight entries and rebooting just to test.

I had this problem during the whole beta stage too and couldn't figure out why vl won't render. The release version works fine so I don't really know what it caused. What could be maybe a problem is the version you installed for ts6 could interfere with the ts7 version. I remember that I had to wrote some code (somewhere :D) to work with virtualight/ts6.
edit: Bobbins is right :D

I don't seem to have any trouble (so far) with either renderers - I have 6.6, 7.5 and 7.51 installed. Intel 2.8 ASUS mthrbrd, ATI 9600 pro video 256 (I think...I'm not even close to being a 'techie' :))
First one is Lightworks, second Vitualight

Oops- I did the previous renders in 7.5 - when I realized that I rendered again in 7.51 with the same result, (I guess having both 7.5 and 7.51 installed does get confusing at times :))

So, in order to use virtuallight, we have to have the truespace install directory use commas, like this?

C:\truespace7,5\

Virtualight works fine for me in both 7.11 and 7.51.

Installed to:

"H:\trueSpace7" and "H:\trueSpace7.51" respectively

H: is just an external USB drive I use. I see no reason why it would work differently due to drive letter though.

My locale would use periods as decimal points.

I had the render option stop working on me in 7.5 (hasn't happened in 7.51) mainly when I was loading old scene files in. anyway, I found that reseting to the default configuration fixed it - I'd give that a try if I were you...

I installed all my TS apps with the regular (default) parameters.
