Is there away to import a .max object in to true space 7.51 or do you need some sort of plug-in. If so which one do I need?

From everything I've read, .max is a proprietary format and I don't think Autodesk is allowing it to be licenced for use in other apps.

So the short answer is that no app can import .Max files except 3dsMax.

As posted, .max is proprietary, and contains lots of info unique to Max (not just geometry etc, but scene sets ups and things). There are some conversion applications that will load and save out a .max scene, polytrans I think is one, but here is the catch - it has to have 3DS Max installed on the machine to do it. This is true of any application that can load and process .max scenes, they have to have Max installed to do it.

So in other words the only way to convert a .max scene to something else is to have 3DS Max installed.

Best conversion route in that case is to work with a colleague who has Max and ask them to save / export to OBJ (or perhaps .3ds).

HTH!

Or, if you are made of money...you could nab "Right Hemispheres'" "Deep Exploration"...of course you will still need MAX. You also need to worry about what version you need it converted from. The .max format gets updated to keep up with the new features in the package itself. Some .max stuff for v.9 does not carry over into v.5 etc...(hair/cloth for example).

btspro,

I could help you out with your conversion. Would you feel comfortable sending me the file?
