Still playing around with variations of materials, objects and lights. Created an object similar like a sandrose (which gem collectors like to have in their own collection)
Such an object calls for experimenting, so while the base object looks like this:
8310
Just painting singel faces with the Paint faces tool of the ME gives variations for example like this one:
8313
Choosing "extreme" materials with somthing like reflections or glowing etc. changes the look very drastically
8311
Using such an object with a good combiantion of painted faces ( where the ME offers a wide area of influence )
in an animation will extend the appearance of such an object. Of course it simply can be placed in a virtual gem cabinet as a simple sandrose.
Fell free to experiment with the attached oject.

Emma,
Thank you so much for the Desert Rose!
My grandfather, who, in his retirement years, was a 'rockhound' living in Arizona, brought me one when I was a little girl, and I found it utterly beautiful, with its intricate crystalline, and yet deceptively organic structure.
I shall very much enjoy experimenting with it (and possibly adding it to a virtual gem collection) ^_^ |

OK, here is some more for anyones virtual gem collection, still WIP though. The base could be modified to look more natural like broken stone.
To render this one I used a big black wall as a surrounding background. Collectors usually use some contrast underground on which they display their treasures.
Faces werer painted manually in ME. Variations could for example be slight blue changings in the crystals.
Feel free to use |

your rose looks more like Kusudama to me

Thanks for that info, never heard of it before, but for sure would be interesting to model a sheet of paper which then is folded in an animation to a Kusudama. Above sandrose is modeled symetrically, in nature they appear of course very different. |

So interesting about the kusudama .. ^_^
Emma, I'm guessing you might get the 'natural' look by making some of various sizes and joining them (and partial ones) together artfully ... I can see it, just don't have the modeling skills yet.. but I'll bet you could, if it intersted you.... ;)
I continue to enjoy your mineral modeling adventures! ^_^ |
