Area lights that look like bulb objects in Modelside direct their light towards the bulb screw on my system. The bulb needs to be turned to point (with the glass as the point of the arrow not the screw end) outwards from a window for example. To see the light from the area light over the bridge in Workspace land I mean. Bulb the right way around in Modelside, light goes away in Vray renders from Vray Render on the Vray Render button - to differentiate the render button from the (usually) bottom right Render To File etc button with Movie/TV aspect ratios. You are not going bonkers TrueSpace user the lights will behave eventually. But not usually if you don't know about the area light arsebackwardness thing :)

The light now is getting better and better but still some awkwardness with the Directional light in my scene which used to show but now doesn't, in Vray renders. I haven't played with the Directional light's properties but suddenly no Vray sunbeam

From Workspace the Directional light looks to be working fine can anyone see what I may have done to make the Directional light stop showing up in Vray renders please?

Peter

I'm not sure directional lights work with VRay... I think they're a DX9 thing... but I did notice that VRay does handle shadows differently between directional (Cylinder light) and infinite lights.

Thanks Jack, bit confusing are the lighting systems. We'll get the hang of it eventually by hanging on the bootstraps of you 'No one gets left behind' Workspace Pioneers. I reinstalled 7.51 did the Import/Export thing and now everything's working ok on the lighting front <touch wood> it must have been me as usual :)

I'm going back to earlier work and seeing Workspace modelling for the first time it's rather good isn't it pulling faces around and discovering a new way to bevel (almost got there) and I'm afraid I'll be back asking modelling questions next sorry! :)

Moral: when nothing else is working reinstall. Nuclear option but it does feel good when it works

Very much appreciate your help Jack thanks!
