I just purchased Truespace 7.51 and it just locks up, after a while I get an error box that says "Initialization error" "Failed to initialize kernel subsystem. Application will be terminated."
Then when I do an end task the following files show up (see Below). I am running a Dual core 3.2Ghz with 2 gigs of Ram and an Nvidia GeForce 7300 GS with 512Megs of Video RAM under Windows XP Pro.
C:\DOCUME~1\KENTHA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf81f.dir00\t S7.exe.mdmp

"trueSpace7 does not work correctly with nVidia drivers newer than 78.01 because of the driver bug introduced in the later version of the drivers. The symptoms include failure to start (freeze at splash screen) or incorrect rendering in Direct3D engine. Drivers that fix the issue are marked as 83.41 and should be available in mid February 2006. Owners of the nVidia cards experiencing problems with trueSpace are strongly encouraged to install drivers version 78.01 until version 83.41 or newer is available."
This is on Caligari FAQ hope it might help. |

Can I go to the Nvidia website and get the older drivers? My wife is fumming that I spent so much for this software. You said the updated drivers won't be available until Feb of 2008?

Feb 2006 not 2008.
I have had no trouble with Nvidia drivers and tS7.5 recently and I am on the 163.44 beta's at the moment. |

I'm using the same drivers as Splinters and it's working ok. So definitely worth a try.
Also try contacting support directly: support@caligari.com
Since this is definitely a support issue. You can call them for even faster response.
Here's the contact info:

Oh hey Splinters, looks like there's new beta drivers out too:

At your own risk, I am afraid, Jack. I am trying Bioshock again (it has real stuttering issues STILL) so I tried these latest drivers....brought my system to it's knees and not just in games either. Everything ran like a dog so I got rid and went back to the 163.44's.
A lot of users report bad experience with them. You have been warned...;)
Besides the 163.44's are pretty good. That Caligari FAQ seems a bit out of date now. |

Out of date by quite a while if you were on the 78's or 80's. Still, good to know it is fixed now...:D
P.S Avoid the latest Beta's as explained in the previous post. Stick to 163.44 to be sure. Best check your chipset drivers too if your other drivers were that old. |

Thanks for the heads up Splinters. There's an issue with the driver and overclocked cards. I haven't had a chance to install them yet so I can't comment as to my particular situation Vista x64 and 7900GS Extreme (factory overclocked) but Noko mentioned that they were working pretty well for him, so I'm probably going to give it a go, but I'll keep the 163.44 installer handy. ;) |

Skip that driver Jack. Nvidia just released a new beta which is due to go WHQL any time; Forceware 163.69.
My system feels much better running these and Bioshock is better too.
Give 'em a go. |

Awww, nice. Fresh off the wires. :D
Must've had some critical bug fixes for them to release an update that quick.
Thanks much Splinters. :) |

I should say! Never had any real trouble with drivers nor did I notice any great improvements but those .77's were awful and brought my system to it's knees.
These .69's are very good so far and a definite improvement on any previous ones so there must have been a problem.
Bear in mind they are expected to go WHQL very soon as well so not as risky as previous Beta's. |
