How do you restore the toolbar on the top? I am going through the tutorials and it shows a bunch of items missing. I looked in the 992 page manual and it doesn't show how to do that.

I'll assume that you are talking about trueSpace7.5.1 and in the Model side. You can select this icon to restore all toolbars. |

The only thing I am showing on the top is "4View" "Default" "Floating" and "truespace6" everything else on the top toolbar is missing.

What you mention is all that supposed to be on the layout bar.
The only think I can think of is that you're looking at a picture of tools in Model side. To get those, you have to click the Model tab. The top bars are minimized into little gray squares. If you mouse over the gray squares the tool bar will expand to show the icons. |

That's the way the bar is supposed to look.
I'm not sure what page 992 is, since my manual is in PDF format. Can you attach the image, or let me know what Chapter + page in the PDF manual it is? |

This is what the toolbar looks like in the tutorial. This is what has me confused.

That's the toolbar from tS 7. What you're showing/seeing is the same toolbar but the 7.51 version. |

I saw that video too Clark and was confused by the layout when I first viewed it.
The way I figure it though, if it ain't broke - don't fix it.
I left mine alone. :) |

Yeah what Wicked Witch said. That's an old image from 7.1. ;)
You definitely have 7.5 but sounds like you're using the old manual. The new manual is PDF only and can be downloaded by logging into the downloads section.
You may want to e-mail Paul at support@caligari.com
He can hook you up with the download for the manual.
Also what are you're trying to do? One of us can probably throw together a video or couple screen grabs to demonstrate. |

Want I want to do is learn how to use the software through the tutorial. It looks like that the software was upgraded before the manual was. When I ordered the software it came with a 993 page book. Having it on PDF would actually be easier since I have dual monitors. The book seems more basic so I will start from there. My first project is to build the outside of a building. So with enough instruction I should manage to do that by the weekend. Is the PDF Manual for ver 7 or ver 7.51?

Also it is referring to the edit toolbar. I am not seeing this. I am looking for the sweep tool. Also how do you undo if you make a mistake?

Clark, take heart, the tS751 manual really does help - a lot!!
When I got tS751 (download) in my download package were extra tutorial videos Getting Started with trueSpace 7. (I wonder if you were trying to use those?)
These are great! However they can be very confusing if you have tS751 and never had ts7 - they do look very different. (I was really stumped at first!) However, once I figured that out, I decided to set them aside until I am quite familiar with the 751 interface, and began using the751 manual which has a lot of videos (for 751!) in it too.
I think it's great the getting started with ts7 tuturials are included in the package (and no, I'm not giving them back :D) , but I do think it would be in order for a little note of explanation to be included along with them in the download.

I don't know where to find that manual. I looked on the download site and it's not there, the tutorials are not very clear. I am new to this type of software and the way the instructions read assumes I came from an earlier version.

I found the manual, except I am having problems following it, I am looking for the object union tool and the instructions are not clear were to find it. I am stuck on the tutorial 1.3 Creating a Mechanical Part.

Hi Clark,
You may want to check out Nowherebrain's tutorials. He's got an introductory tutorial up on his website for free and his other video tutorials are very innexpensive:
http://www.scatteredpixel.com/files/Page1.html
It's a pretty steep learning curve moving into 3D graphics. My estimate is that it takes the average person about 2 years of serious commitment to get to the point of being competent with the tools. I've been messing around with 3D for over a decade now, but only seriously over the last few years and I still have a lot to learn. I think one of the reasons it takes so long is that it's not just about learning 3D or learning any one app, it's about building up the skills.
Don't get discouraged though. Eventually a lightbulb will go off and things will start to make more sense. It also really helps to participate in 3D forums like you're doing. ;)
The problem with a lot of the existing videos and tutorials is that they focus on Model side, or were created with 6.6 or 7.1. Caligari's working on making new videos for 7.51, but it takes time to make the training videos (months). Hopefully we'll start seeing some new ones coming out over the next few months.
If you find yourself getting stuck it can be really helpful to post a video recording or screen shots and explain where you're stuck, then one of the forum members here can post a video or screens to help out. :)

I need to correct myself. The videos in the pdf manual look like they've all been updated to 7.5. :) I was referring more to the training courses.
If you find any that are still 7.1 definitely post about it so they can get updated. ;) |
