I never seem to post much a) because I don't do much! and b) because I'm my own worst critic. Thought its time I did.
Anyway, here is the first render of a little landscape I have been working on - modelled primarily in 7.5 workspace then rendered on the modelside with LW (are we ever going to get LW in workspace?) The curly clouds were created in Painter. There are other things to go into it yet but I was pretty pleased with how its looking already so I thought I'd share and ask for some feedback - suggestions.
Just to reiterate someting I've said before in posts - I'm not interested in realism as such, I'm after a "toonish" look but with something of the complexity of realism - hence the simple trees. |

You'd probably fall off the edge and plummet forever - this is not an immersive environment! (Aw shucks! Thanks for the kind words. - isn't there a humble emoticon?) |

Burnart,
You posted before and I liked your style and you stopped. Are you trying to abuse us? We want more! I like this one too.
OK is it me or did you subconsciously design a warthog or two in your rendering? Do you see them? |

Again kind words - thankyou. I spend too much time fiddling with the software and not enough time simply "doing". As far as warthogs go I can't say as I have noticed any but I'm only running on coffee and mints - what have you been taking?;) |

My first thought was to look for a Pixar character bounding over the hill. Very nice. More please. |

Yes the landscape in Boundin' is great! I also like the style in the Ice Age movies and the simple landscape around the house in the "Lifted" (I think its called). Its the short thats on before Ratatouille. The 'scape is very minimalist. |

Very cute - nicely demonstrates the repetition of meshes - lazy or good design? |

Lovely render.
I really like the watercolor sky against the hyper-real rocks.
Steinie: "How about a nice greeeasy pork sandwich served up in a dirty ashtray?"
First you're seeing bodies in the rocks, now warthogs...check your rye bread for mold! |

Here is the next version. I've dropped in a building on stilts and this meant changing the lighting angles because it was originally in very dark silhouette - might come up with a compromise later.
On the facing side you will notice an image of a landscape (posted it about a year ago I think!) This is supposed to be a reflection on a window but I don't know how to achieve the effect. I don't want to go the whole HDRI road as that will create too many new problems. I have tried the environment map shader but couldn't get that to look right.
Can someone suggest a way to fake it? |

Lower the opacity of the picture layer or increase the transparancy in the transp shader (don't know what the material set up is like) as at the moment it looks like a printed canvas. Making it more transparant will make it seem more like a reflection on a window. |

It is actually transparent although I know it doesn't look it. I'll try playing with it more. Might make the reflection image more contrasting as well. Perhaps a person/figure just behind the glass.
I wouldn't mind making the building a bit shabbier but the only ideas that I can come up with tend to be dependent on big increases in geometry. At the moment the texturing is pocedurals - I try making some maps for it. |

I like your style a lot. The reflection in the window is a bit strange and looks painted. It is because the angle you are looking at it would only allow for the sky to be seen, with maybe a nearby treetop. In your picture on the window you can even see a horizon (i guess) whereas the horizon in the picture we are looking at is way down.

Good point - I already chopped the bottom off the picture but I do need to cut off some more and give it a bit more sky. Thanks for the input Georg. |

The way to go here is a second render -pass with the inside of the
house visible. You just put the renderpass with the reflection you have now
on top of the renderpass with the inside .... in photoshop layer and with
the percentage of the overlay you can finetune the effect.
For even further realism you can partialy delete the reflection.
You can use more then 2 layers if you wish.

Hi Burnart !
This is what I am talking about.... the fine tuning is the
difficult part but that the way I do that kind of thing....

Your welcome !
Multi pass rendering and rendering to layers are very good sometimes.. !:)
