Ok I've recently reformatted my main computer and now I'm reinstalling all my software. I was about to install trueSpace and thought that I would put both 6.6 and 7.5 on this computer. Before I do I decided I better ask if the two different versions could peacefully coexist on the same machine.

Also I have several TS 6.6 plug-ins laying around somewhere and when I find them would I have any trouble installing them in TS6 with TS7 installed.

Should be no problem although model side of tS7.5 is just about identical to 6.6. Never seen the point in having both since 7.5 was released.

Thanks splinters. The reason I asked was that I was under the impression some of the older plug-ins (I think Mostion Studio was one) had problems running on the model side of trueSpace 7.x.

A few points to have both:

- 6.6 boots faster.
- 6.6 leaves you more ram to work with. May be not dramatic with newest machines and 2 gig ram and above. But when you just have 512 mb or one gig ram it makes a big difference if the software uses 50 mb or 200 mb of it.
- 6.6 works with newest LUUV plugin, 7.5 modeler doesnt
- It is just a few pixels, but you have more space in 6.6 to work in.
- Hot Keys are not bound to what Hot Keys you use in Workspace (same Hot Keys possible that way ... )
- Double click at a value in the Object Info Box in 6.6 and 7.5 Modeler. In 6.6 you can mark the whole value by this. Doesn't work in Modeler anymore. I personally work lots with values ...
- Finally broken old bones. There was something with rigging from what i remember that makes it impossible to finish it then. Yeah, there is the new bones system. But i wasn't able to finish a rig so far there too. You can find the results in the bug section. And you cannot export the new bones yet anyway ...
- Mostu makes fun in modeler sometimes

I stop here ;)

I have installed both, 6.6 and 7.51. I mainly work with 6.6. And it works without problems. You can even start and work with both at once.

Only issue is the file association in this case. I have connected the *.scn files to open with TS 6.6. You have to dive into the folder options / file types for that, and manually change the association for the *.scn . TS 7.5 installation overrides it, even when installing TS 6.6 afterwards ...

Good points Tiles although I find tS7.5 pretty fast as long as the bridge is off. I also use HDRI a lot so that makes tS6.6 redundant. I also use Vray from model side so, again, no 6.6.

Depends on what you want to use really...:)

Plus, I like the tS7.5 UI much better, but then I would...

Yes, it really depends of your needs. But you see there are some cases where TS 6.6 is still handy :)

I agree with splinters I definitely like the 7.5 interface better. I also like alot of the new tools however I'm still much more comfortable working in 6.6. One of several things I like better in 6.6 is being able to access and edit the individual layers of SDS on a mesh, as far I know that can't be done in 7.5.

I tried using the bridge in 7.5 to bounce back and forth between the two and that worked well sometimes and sometimes it just messed things up and then I would have to take the time to fix whatever got mangled by the bridge.

Good tip about the luvv plug-in Tiles since I'm getting ready to start exporting out some of my models to use in Bryce and other 3D landscape programs.

Editing of SDS layers is possible in tS7.5, depends on the display mode. You need to have 3D widgets on and be in solid display mode. Worked for me.

Ah, but I am biased on that one...:D

250 gb hardrive means I can have both if I want them - and I do, although 95% of the time I just use 7.5. I have them installed to their default locations and it all seems to run fine although I never run them at the same time - not sure if that's problematic or not.
