Here is a little montage of an alien I made. Set him up with bones, locks and handles. There is something so much more satisfying about messing around with a character you have made yourself. I got a real kick out of dragging him around the screen and setting up some odd poses. Like dragging a marionette through treacle!

I was wondering if anyone knows of some FREE information explaining the best places to put joints for different limbs etc - I don't think what I've done is so bad but it could do with improvement. I like to learn from what I'm doing.

LOL he's great! looks like you don't need any help with rigging at all. Did you subdivide the mesh after posing him as he looks really smooth?

Nice model and rigging. I know what you mean about trying to better what you have done and that is admirable. Wish I could help but I am no animator....although I keep promising to learn-it is just easier for me to actually move poly's for a repose just now...

Burnart,

You've got to animate this alien with a hula hoop!!! Please...

It would be visual feast.:D

I love the character poses and wish you did a tutorial on how you did it. These are refreshing.

Thanks guys for the supportive comments - the rig isn't that great really - these

are poses where the mesh didn't scrunch up horribly!

I put a layer of sds on before flattening history then building the skeleton but I think I may have ended up with 2 sds layers inadvertently because the mesh is pretty dense. I'm opening up a question in the tech forum about problems with joints that may be because of this.
