Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated. I must admit that I'm a big, big movie fan and did wonder whether my love of films clouded my judgement when it came to choosing a topic for the SMC. Or, for that matter, whether other forum members would agree with my opinion that movie props could be considered as design icons. However, with your support this challenge is now well and truly under way and I'm very eager to see what your enties will look like. |

Well Weevil, your Delorean is a fantastic model and it is certainly one of the most memorable movie prop icons. As to whether your model is eligible for the current SMC, if it was made within the 3 hour time limit then yes, it does meet the entry requirements. However, as you started the model quite some time ago and have had the luxury of time to refine it, I'm not too sure as to whether entering it would be within the spirit of the competition. I would be very intrested to hear other members comments on this matter. |

I disagree. The modeling should be done AFTER the challenge is given. That is why it is called a challenge. Not much of a challenge sending in stuff you did before. My two cents. |

Thanks Georg, thanks nigec, your words are much appreciated. The response so far has been really positive so hopefully were all in for a good challenge.
nigec - I have just seen your entry and just love the way you have placed in all the detail. I especially like the way you have modelled and textured the chains.
Georg - I really liked your entry in the last SMC and can't wait to see what you come up with this time.
Good luck to you both. |

Ok.. You know the movie titanic? (never saw the thing, worked at a place that kept running it over a tv back when it came out on video lol)....
Near the end the funnel falls over? Yeah... yeah??
Well up for auction is the bolts that held that funnel down (or used to) ;)
I'll try and make a real entry before the deadline,

I'll manage ;) , maybe its TS's way of saying the model was cr*p... try something different lol
its ok MikeJoel, i live in the town that built the Titanic's rudder.. no wonder it didn't turn very well, some chav's stole the cast iron and weighed it in i reckon hence why it was to small  |

Wow! This SMC is really up and running now.
Prodigy - yet another fantastic creation. You really have nailed the eyes on this one and that is essential to pull off a rendering of this character. Great effort and thanks for your support.
Georg - You know, I was going to put the Falcon in the image I used to introduce the topic, but later rejected the idea as I wondered if anybody else would know what it was. Therefore, I'm particularly pleased you choose it as your subject and what a great piece of modelling work it is too.
Good luck to you you both.
Splinters - It's a shame your are too busy to enter this SMC as I appreciate any opportunity to see your work. However, I fully understand your current commitment to Buddy World and your comment and support are appreciated.

LOL, but I cant quite believe that, your work is very good. |

More entries? This SMC is really rocking now. Thanks all.
CdeB - What a great movie Icon, and so simple too. I remember stumbling across this fella whilst playing Duke Nukem. Ahh those were the days.
Steinie - Thanks for your support even if it is for only "One last Time." :( Mind you, your entry was so full of subliminal messages your chimp reached out of my screen and knocked me off my chair.:D You do realise of course that now you have entered I will rig the voting so that you win and have to stay and run the next SMC.:banana::banana:
Weevil - Wow man, what a great image. Some great modelling and shader work going on there. Really love that wood texture too. S'funny though, I had you down to model the tank from Tron. :D
spyfrog - I think your caught in a flashlight effect works really well. This SMC allows 3 hours for your model by the way. And, if you want to save same time, try making just 4 of the spheres that cover the Dalek's base position them, then join them all together and copy them multiple times to do the rest. Or, model just half a Dalek, minus its arm and gun, and mirror it to create the other half. HTH. |

More great entries I see.
However, not wanting to put a downer on the communities competitive spirit, as the current competition's moderator, it is my duty to point out that quite a few of the submissions surpass the image restrictions specified in the SMC's entry criteria. Competitors should note, that since its inception, the SMC has always specified that entries are limited to one image no greater than 800 x 600 pixels and one additional wireframe image of similar size. Multiple images of the same entry and pictures shown at a higher resolution give the entrant a distinct and unfair advantage. The entry specifications are there to ensure a level playing field for all competitors and also to assist would be voters by presenting them a uniformed selection.
Therefore, I now ask that all those artists who have submitted images above and beyond the competition's entry criteria edit their post and correct their entries accordingly.
Thank you for your cooperation. |

No problem Mike. Its just that the SMC seems to be gaining in popularity of late and as new community members join in the fun and we get an ever increasing numbers of entries, its only fair to all if we tighten up on the rules. |

Well I am completely humbled by the level of the competition. Great job everybody and do I spot a few SF fans...?
My consolation is that 2001 is the most referred to movie so far ;-)...but that could all change...

Nice entry nigec, another of my movie favourites.
Don't worry about the awe factor of the competition CdeB. I felt exactly the same way a couple of months ago. 3 competitions later and I ended up winning it. How? Well, the forum members here are a great crowd and can give you some fantastic feedback on your work and an even greater insight in to how they achieve their own results. My success is entirely down to learning from them. |

Thanks for the kind comments Breech Block...unfortunately, time is my enemy not friend re. improving with tS. But using it for work has helped a lot...and as you say the community is an enormously important resource to help move up the learning curve...and with this mail I graduate to senior :o, eventually!

Some cool entries so far - a great Wall-E Prodigy, but needs to be a bit dirtier! Needs the MadMouse touch....
The Indy hat/wip combo look superb.
Have to confess I started a lightsabre over the weekend too (ironically it's even the same one) but seeing as it's nearly done I may as well finish off, sorry Weevil! Maybe I'll try to get a second entry out before the deadline - this is a great topic and really appeals to me.... |
