September Monthly Modeling Challenge -- Topic: Your "Dream Home"
Here goes the launch of a new modeling challenge.
The idea is to have a challenge that is geared more towards the complete 3D development cycle from concept through modeling, surfacing, lighting, rendering, and post process. This is a chance for TSer's to really show there stuff and help motivate the production of portfolio quality images.
The contest will have a 3 week deadline with the week following used for voting. Winner will select the next month's topic and run that month's challenge just like we're doing in the SMC challenges. It's up to the community to participate and keep the challenge going.
Basic rules:
1.) Submission expresses the topic. If topic is an object, then it must include at least one instance of the object which should be the focus of the image.
2.) Use your own work. No pre-made purchased or free models, please.
3.) Start a Work In Progress thread for your submission.
4.) Submission should be one 800x600 image and a link to your WIP thread.
5.) Indicate tools used to create your submission. TS should be the primary application used to create the image. Post Processing in a paint program is ok.
6) Extra Rule this Month: You must have Fun!:)
It's important that everyone who's planning to enter start a WIP thread. With difficult challenges like this many entries are over ambitious and don't make it to completion so in many cases it may be likely that judging will have to take place on the WIPs.
Feel free to post comments and links to WIP threads here in this thread instead of a separate comments thread. I will maintain a list of WIP links here at the top of the thread.
This month's topic is: Your "Dream Home"
Deadline is: Saturday September 22nd at 11:00PM EST |

Good topic, Steinie. :)
It good to have a challenge that will cater to the skills of the architectural vizualization users in the community, but still enough room for creativity for those who want to do a creative interpretation.
I'm going to have to put some thought into my concept for this one...

So far no one has started a Dream House WIP. Don't put off at least starting one. Everyone will start to think there is no interest and this Challenge will die.
I'm working like crazy on my latest work so that I can finish and start on this one. So my lack of WIP is for that reason only. Where are the rest of you Mules?
Get started and show us what you got! I'll be joining the fun soon.:) |

I've a couple of ideas and am quite keen to get something going; will hopefully start a WIP thread soon when I've got enough to be worth showing...
However, I think that the 'limit' of a single 800x600 image will kill my favourite idea - do we have to be so rigid on the form of submission? I guess I could post the small version and provide a link to a much bigger version? Otherwise a lot of detail could be lost... |

The 800x600 limit was set because of Norm's rules for embedding images, and that's the max size the forum will take before resizing it for you automatically. But maybe we could relax it for externally linked images?
The trick would be to not post anything too wide, unless you just post it as a hyperlink. So best method I think would be to post an 800x600 image then link to a higher res one.
Steinie's running this month's challenge so he'll have to ok it.

I am flexible but at the same time the rules for the forum is 800x600. I would say external links and compressed files are allowed but one 800 x 600 has to be displayed.
I think we are almost at the point of a challenge extension. My ideas are still in the design phase and no one has posted anything yet.
I am getting nice feedback stating the subject is a good one. I suppose it is a bad time of year. (Kids going back to school etc.)
Again I'm flexible on what we should do. |

I think we're going to have to extend this one.
It may also be that 3 weeks just isn't enough time for this kind of project and maybe we should make it a bi-monthly challenge?
Personally, I have a project I'm currently working on that's going to eat up most of my time for the next 2-3 weeks. So while I can get some work on the challenge I'm fairly certain I won't be able to do it justice.

I think an extension would be sensible - I'd certainly like to see plenty of entries, especially on such a great subject matter. Will watch this space for an official verdict, but I would struggle to produce anything worthwhile for the current date given current circumstances (and yes, I have a kid going back to school!)
I'm fine with posting an 800x600 image inthe thread, it's just I think I'll also have to make a larger version available for my current idea, but that's fine. |

OK because of the hectic time of year I have decided to extend the deadline to October 20th 6:00PM EST. with Voting Dates starting on October 21 and ending on October 27th 6:00pm EST
Users will still have time to submit their work to the Caligari October Monthly Contest if they wish.
All comments welcome.
A reminder when you start your WIP please send me the link.
One 800 x 600 rendering must be posted. Links or Compressed files allowed for higher res. to show us the details.
Hint: this one is just in time for Haunted Houses too (if your dream is a nightmare...;)) |

LOL Prodigy, hey if you can get it done in less time than a month go for it. :)
I think if someone finishes early they could do more than one entry as well. What do you think Steinie?

Quick question: Would a room be acceptable? That was the direction I was going beforehand, but if it isn't, I'll come up with something else. |
