The pros are too afraid that we non-artists might learn something I suppose.

And as an aside - please don't call your-self a 'non-artist' - that is clearly not the case as you are clearly a highly creative individual, with a great deal of vision and a unique take on things that often allows you to produce pieces no-one else would have even considered, let alone attempted... the words 'lemon powered attack glider' spring to mind, just for starters... you are a genius! ;)

Very nicely put Nez.

Great - new work just came my way and will need an extension for sure now :-) - Yea, since there wasn't any replies, just thought I'd play fair period, and actually, came up with a new idea for the tail, so... off we go. - Actually, my entry, other than for 'selfish reasons' (I just love to create), was hoping to spark some flames into the new guys... because it's as you state... practice makes perfect, and pressure makes you better. This isn't so much a 'challenge' for me (ok, it is, but with a different meaning than the implied), but as a way to learn and grow.

"Come on boys!!! You don't wanna to live for ever do ya?!!"

(He walks away snickering)

I noticed there is a lull lately (I am also guilty). C'mon guys give it a shot. :D

Genius no.

Idiot yes.

I was an idiot thinking that doing an entire scene to scale with multiple category of "things that can fly", along with multiple buildings, atmosphere and etc. would be understood as a viable contest entry.

I won't make that mistake again.

James are you still fussing over that? Look at it this way. I did a "serious" piece and I got one vote...you got way more than I did..so what is your excuse now? You have to build your worlds and not worry about everybody else. Heck I though I did a good piece in the last SMC..and a box of matches..which it not a baby toy won. So that is proof that a scene which is not totally in tune with what everybody else does can win. even if we don't always agree with the winner.

I didn't bring it up, just commented on it.

no problems there... I did a couple of toys and didn't get a single vote on either of them. Part of the reality of the contest is that people will vote as much according to mood as to artistic merit. a comment made during the contest actually led to my very first animation gallery entry. I didn't finish it in time for this past entry, but it will be in there for the next one!

Well there was no specific response, but given where the current entries stand, proposed extension is a go unless anyone objects; currently stands at 30th May unless it becomes clear that this needs to be extended further....

Thanks Nez. :)

I've got my basic design sketched, nothing worth showing yet though.

You tease!

Can't you even give us a hint? A fish perhaps?! :D;)

I've still got a long way to go for my own effort, but hope to post something myself in the next day or two...

Nah, though that's a good idea ;p

It's the airship inventor chick from the airship challenge a while back. I did some outfit sketches the other night. My drawing skills have gone to crap from lack of use though... lol.

Sounds like a cool concept, lots of potential - look forward to seeing something!

No complaint here Nez - looks like we all are strugglin with time, so an extension is welcome.

As for drawing skills, I KNOW what u mean Jack. That's why I recently joined a sketching group round here - was forgeting the might and beauty of the pencil :-)

Well it's all gone a bit quiet and I haven't wrapped this up yet as I've been so busy, even though it's overdue.

Does anyone want more time or should we just call it a day for this one and just vote where we stand? I'm certainly not going to get any significanttime to work more on my robot for the time being, but it has inspired me to do a whole load more work outside the challenge at some point.

I don't want to keep extending indefinitely if people can't afford the time to do any more, so suggest either an extension to Friday 13th (woo!) or Monday 16th to give the extra weekend and no more. Or end it now...

The entries I'm aware of are:

Dragneye - dragon and robot

Jayr - Aleric (spelling?)

Jack - airship inventor chick

Was there anyone else - can't remember? Mine's not up for voting as challenge host.

NB - I'll also post this to any of the WIPs I find...

Agreed. Call it done. - Ya know, I'm really surprised at the lack of entries. Such a wide open topic, and just abt everybody is workin on SOME kind of character.

Monday 16th would give me time, been distracted by preparations for my sisters wedding, which is later today. I vote for an extention

I agree the 16th would work great and should give me enough time to finish mine as well.

Well, with two votes for the 16th, we'll go with that - I've seen Dragn's comments here and on his WIPs and understand this his entries are going to be longer-term committments in any case, which is fine.

Like you guys, I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of entries - I'm sure there are plenty of folks who could have done something interesting, but never mind...

Well Nez I am sorry..but I have been working out of town alot and when I have been in town working I have been working till very late. I just have not had anytime to do a entry this time in anything. Heck I have not had time to do a SMC yet. I know how you feel about the lack of intrest.

No worries Jeff - you'd said atthe outset you wouldn't be able to join on this one and I can understand that. I've not done anything for a couple of SMCs now and need to find some time to get back into that as well - I nearly did this time, and had hoped to get a lunchtime in the last few days before the deadline, but it just didn't work out that way....

Never mind; I'm just going to put the poll up now; I realise people haven't got as far as they'd want on this generally but it's time for someone to launch a new challenge - hopefully we'll carry on and finish of our characters anyway...
