Appropriate perhaps for the Halloween season is this new project - a definite departure for me as I'm branching into a more cartoony look (no doubt inspired by Splinters).

Here's my first two characters, yet to be rigged (though I've started buiding a skele for one of them.

They are (for me anyway :D) fairly lo-poly characters, shown here with a layer of SDS. As this is somewhat unexplored territory for me I'm looking for any crits, comments, suggestions, opinions or sociological dissertations ;) that anyone may wish to share.

Thanks in advance.

I like these, very trendy :) - how about an amulet or tatoo, for the witch, if you're not giving her a pointy hat? Something helpful for the focusing of spells?

I like her leggings and his rather transparent robe. ;)

I love the style. My only complaint is the witches cheek going so sharply from the corner of the eye to the nose. The wizards face is perfect, maybe cheeks like his. Unless you want her to have pointy cheeks, then ignore me :)

Awesome.

It sounds cliché, but you are doing a cartoon, therefore a caricature of all the stereotypes.
Your witch should not have a cute button nose. It needs to be longer… I’m not saying to make it 4 inches long, just a bit longer. :D

OK I'll break away from the Lemmings and say I like them just the way they are. I would like to find out how you started with their creation. Did you use Make Human and modify or did you start at the ground up? Very nice work however you did them Wizard. I also like their clothing. Also do they resemble their creators?:)

I hope she's going to be given some more clothes. It gets drafting whipping about on broomsticks

Haha, WWOTW, :D

I imagined that perhaps she styles herself after the "Charmed (http://www.tvmerch.com/cgi-bin/shop/tvcart.cgi?action=enter&thispage=chcal08.htm&order_id=%21ORDERID%21&affid=002) Ones", who dress in youthful style, with plenty of short skirts, bare shoulders and midriff etc, eschewing broomsticks and instead teleporting with the assistance of a white-lighter :p

However, if she's going to ride the broomstick she's going to need a wooly muffler, at the very least ;)

Thanks for the feedback folks - it feels like I'm running on the right track then :D

@Butterpaw - I like your tattoo suggestion and I've considered an amulet too - I'm trying to maintain as low a poly count as I can but a tattoo can be done with textures. Re the pointy hat - I have several made for her but pointy hats and large pointy noses may not be appropriate for this witch - see comments below.

@Splinters - yeah I do have my own style - I guess we all have! I've usually tried to create 'fantasy realities' rather than the more overtly cartoon reality that you do so well - I thought with these characters I'd try a different approach.

@3dfrog - OK I take your point about her cheeks - I'll play with them some more.

@Kena - I struggled with her nose - I know the convention is for long pointy noses but I'm not sure that I want to perpetuate the stereotypes. Witches actually come in three flavours - The Maiden, The Mother and The Crone. Because Witches are supposed to be scarey they are often portrayed as the Crone - I want my witch to be more of the Maiden type - young and beautiful.

@Steinie - Given your renowned critical eye I'm very pleased that you like them as they are. No MakeHuman here, these guys are way lower poly than that - she is 1923 faces before SDS and he is 1715 faces. I did build them from the ground up as it were however I did have an excellent guide - I'm sure you will remember Bad Bunny who was active on the old forums. He created two very low poly figures he called Bob and Bobette which he kindly shared with the forum before he left.

I used those models as a guide to getting the general proportions and edge flow for the bodies especially at the joints. I made much smaller hands and feet for my characters and obviously I've extended the modeling to include the clothing. The heads I totally made up as I went along.

I aim to have a selection of bodies for different environments for these two - He is the Cozmyk Wizard and she is The SpaceWitch and I'm looking for a blend of wizard and witch conventions combined with sci-fi conventions. This means they will both require spacesuits as well as the more conventional robes. (There is also a space ship that looks like a giant cauldron with Enterprise style warp nacelles but that's still some way off yet.)

@TWWOTW - I'll take you word for it that it gets cold whipping about on broomsticks - wizards usually fly on dragons (which obviously have central heating) or nice warm wooly flying carpets. ;) But never fear, this SpaceWitch will indeed have more clothing!

The next step is to rig these guys I think. I'm not planning to animate them but I do want to be able to pose them in various scenes.

UPDATE: OK so several folk mentioned she'd need more clothing - how's this then?

SpaceWitches fly too high for brooms alone - so they need a good reliable spacesuit.

Oh yeah - and a big raygun!

Spacesuit looks great, but kinda lost the entire witch-feeling. Instead of tattoos you might need some symbols on the suit? Or a cape?

(drifts off to the discussiont in the pixar superhero movie... NO CAPE! ;) )

Thanks for the remarks folks.

(drifts off to the discussiont in the pixar superhero movie... NO CAPE! ;) )Yeah I know the Witchy feeling is gone here but in the context of the story there will be a definite Witchy feel - Gothic cauldron spaceships crewed by skeletons and zombies, demon aliens, and so forth....

This is a big project and whilst much of the story exists in my head very little has been written to date. I've not yet decided on what the format will be but I figure if I don't get started on it soon it just may never get started!!
